Yes, you are reading it right, they are coming out with another Halloween film next summer.
Not only is it in 3D, no doubt because of FD4's success, but it looks to be another reboot of the series and not a sequel to H2 (or a remake of H3 for that matter).

I don't even know what to say about this new project. Anything to turn a buck I guess.

The rumor going around is that Steve Miner could be in contention to direct. He has done a Halloween film (H20) and a 3D film (Part 3). That would also mean that the Zombieverse is another old series, and H2 was just released in theaters.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but I don't see what everyone's problem is with the Halloween franchise continuing.
I'd be happy if they were still making these movies when my grandchildren are old. I don't want to ever see my favorite horror franchises fade into obscurity and become forgotten. As long as they continue with the remakes, sequels, and reboots Jason, Michael, and Freddy will be alive forever. I mean, how many times has Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman been remade in some form? They've stayed important and relevant to the horror community because of these new movies, regardless if we're all a fan of them or not.
That's just my two cents.

I don't have a problem with them continuing the series and like you I hope these movies are around for many years to come, it just seems like their jumping on the bandwagon with the 3D aspect with this one. I'd much rather see a regular Halloween film than one with a novelty twist to it, I mean we already had that with Resurrection.

I agree with them not needing to make it a 3D flick, but I'm still glad to know that the series is going to continue.

The franchise is already damaged beyond repair anyways.
This means that there will now be three series and five time lines.
EDIT:
Steve Miner is no longer the director in question.
Patrick Lussier, who did MBV 3D, is in talks to write and direct the film.

A quick look at the movies coming out soon will show how 3D is being embraced by the studios and will eventually be in the home.
Remember that a movie being shown in 3D won't look good when recorded on a video camera.
All upcoming Pixar releases will be in 3D and they use it to enhance the viewing, not for obvious gags.
The technology is here to stay, so buckle your seat belt and get ready for the ride.

Most of you know how I feel about 3D. 100% for it in all cases. Does nothing but add something extra - even to the crappiest of films.

www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17425Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer have been hired as the writer and director of Halloween 3D. They did MBV 3D and Farmer also regrettably wrote Jason X. Pre-production is set to start in November for a likely summer 2010 release.

There is still no word on whether this is a sequel to H2 or another reboot.
However, Zombie is gone, so a sequel would not have the look or feel of his films.

That's something at least, as long as they don't go with someone worse for the series that he was.

It is already in active development, with Todd Farmer writing the script and pre-production set to begin soon.

I just have two issues with this. The first being these new films tend to take away from what the originals did. There is a difference between updating and totally changing it. My second issue is, I don't like 3D for the discomfort factor. The glasses rarely work, and I wear eyeglasses so I can't put them on or see. Contacts are an option, but it'd be silly to get them just to watch movies.

I am looking forward to this. Good writer and director IMO and 3D is a plus and it's HALLOWEEN!
