This is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Jack Nicholson was great (as usual) and there are a lot of creepy scenes. Especially the two little girls in the hall. REDRUM, REDRUM....classic.

Although not really true to King's novel, this is still a very good horror movie. Nicholson's over-the-top performance is classic. HERE'S JOHNNY!

Pretty much my thoughts exactly ff1979. It can definitely not be said to be the most faithful adaption of his work. But it is brilliant. The Made for T.V. movie that was closer to his work wasn't as good. But I blame that on being made for t.v. and the quality of actors.

What are your thoughts about the photograph at the end of the movie? I found it kind of confusing. Was he a reincarnation or something?

I thought it meant since he died there he was now going to become one of the spirits that haunt the hotel.

Looking forward to this book sequel for sure. I always took the picture at the end as that he's always been there, like a ghost himself that keeps coming back in a reincarnation or something. Like Grady tells him, " You are the caretaker, you've always been the caretaker. I should know I've always been here"
They are al basically owned souls of the hotel or something along those lines. I don't think I've viewed any other movie as much as this one.

Like he was predestined to become a spirit there? Interesting.

Maybe he really was there years ago when the first, or all of the tragedies took place so his ghostly soul is in limbo like the rest of them. It appears it's him they wanted to stay all along, not Danny. In a way like that episode of Twilight Zone where the mannequin forgets it's her week off but she has to remain there with the rest kind of thing, idk
