I saw SLEEPAWAY CAMP for the first time last Friday (the 13th) night on IFC. I had never heard of the movie until about a year or so ago when Starz aired the documentary . . . I think it was called "The Rise and Fall of the Slasher," so the ending was divulged.
Like an earlier post stated, it was almost like watching MEATBALLS, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. The only difference is SLEEPAWAY is supposed to be a horror movie.
I was not scared. There was not much gore. The acting was okay. I was surprised to see Christopher Collet - apparently he is just working in the theatre these days.
Anyway, I am not sure what my opinion is about this movie. The story seems to have several holes.
1. Why were the kids watching two gay men making love in the flashback?
2. Was that supposed to foreshadow the transexual character at the end of the movie?
3. Why were the girls so mean to each other?
I guess the screenwriter is the one who should be answering these questions, but it would be interesting to know the perspective of fans of the film.

I guess the screenwriter is the one who should be answering these questions, but it would be interesting to know the perspective of fans of the film. 1. Well, one of the men was their dad, so I'm guessing they peeped on him at some point. Then, maybe it was just me, they seemed to experiment on each other, which gave me the creeps. 2. I think it just showed that it was one of things that messed with Peter's (Angela) head. Of course, his Aunt completely warping him was the real problem. 3. I don't know, that's how young girls seem to act to me. Plus, it was only a couple. Haven't you seen Carrie? I love this film. I feel kind of dirty every time I view it. It's so weird. I don't think it has any holes at all. It's crazy how the Aunt got away with doing that, since she was a doctor.

The aunt was a fruitcake.
Yes, I have seen CARRIE. The teenage girls are mean in that movie, too. I guess all movies elevate matters for dramatic purposes.

I finally saw the 3rd one about a week ago (Thanks again Chainsaw!). It was pretty fun but doesn't come close to the greatness of the first one IMO. I did like the little joke about Friday the 13th in the movie. Catching a hockey mask while fishing was great. And the lines about what day it is. "Saturday. Yeah the 14th." ;D

The movies make it more extreme, but looking back at the girls in my junior high and high school, some were almost as cruel.

Yeah, the girls weren't that far off from some that I knew at that age. At that age I think for some girls its kill or be killed, no pun intended.

Yeah, it really is. I think it's about time for a Sleepaway Camp marathon. This is the perfect time of the year for it.

Me too but my g/f wouldnt never let it happen while she's home. She was so disgusted by the first one that she said she will never watch that one of anything to do with it. Oh well... I got lots of 3 day weekends coming up. #smug# I don't know about that. Part III has always been good, but far inferior than Parts 1 and 2. Directly comparing II and III, to me, II had better characters, better kills, better images, and better comedy. Sleepaway Camp II is one of those sequels that can easily contend for best sequel ever....while Part III is simply more of the same, thus making it less memorable. The first time I watched Part 2 I thought it was a huge drop from Part 1.... I thought it was a lame excuse to kill more people. I thought there was no story there. I was probably drunk when I watched it but still. I remember Part 3 being a fresh take on it. I also recall a cool firecracker kill?
Either way I will watch Part 2 and 3 tommorow while my g/f is at work and rejudge these movies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sleepaway Camp II is probably my favorite blending of horror and comedy.
Fridayfan1979, you're right about this being the perfect time of year for the movies. I watched the first at the beginning of this month and I'll definitely watch II and III again before the summer is out.

Sleepaway Camp 2 is a brilliant masterpiece that exceeds both its prequel and it's sequel. The first one is great too. But part 2 is super special. It just rocks!! Ya know I JUST watched it so it's completely fresh in my mind. It was great and you really got to know the victims. You must admit there were a few filler kills in there too. It was also weird that she killed to two little kids that took pics of the girls tits. Usually killers dont kill kids. I guess when its a girl it becomes more equal though.
Anyway I don't agree that it's better then Part 1. I'm not one of those Part 1 is the greatest guys. I love Terminator 2, Conan 2, Friday 2 and Nightmare on Elm 2 more then Part 1. However Sleepaway Camp 1 is soooo classic and so well done that I can't say this 80's horror trash was better then it. I love 80's trash and I love SC2.
I just don't think it was better then Part 1. Really cool though... I will watch it again before the year is over.

I agree. As much as I love 2 and 3, they don't even come close to the first one.

I don't know how many times I said it on this thread but where the hell is this new movie?!
Here some links

Apparently the director doesnt like the CGI in the movie? 5 years to get that right? This isnt a masterpiece Im sure... what's the difference...Updates on RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP release: How many years has it been now? Oh yeah, now I remember. How could I forget with all the reminders from SLEEPAWAY fans? Don't worry, I'm getting all your messages and I agree with you completely - it's time to see this movie released. Well, rumor has it that we're finally looking at release THIS YEAR. Supposedly the scoring has been worked out and a finished movie is on the horizon. But in the words of director Robert Hiltzik, "Don't count your chickens before they hatch!" Robert is still a bit bamboozled with the CGI fiasco and apparently it hasn't yet been exactly worked out to his satisfaction. What exactly does this mean? It means ... Until you get the official word, take everything with a grain of salt. A lot of you have noted conflicting reports. This guy is saying "this" and that guy is saying "that," but we've heard it all before. As many of you know, that is why I stopped updating every time somebody gets a nibble that usually just leads right back to the same ole circle. But I promise you one thing: as soon as I get the official word from Robert, I'll let you all know.
sleepawaycampmovies.comThis is from WikipediaThe sequel wrapped filming in 2003 and was scheduled to be released in the early part of 2006, but has been delayed several times due to unsatisfactory CGI effects. The executive producer of the film, Tom Vandell, claimed that the corrected CGI was completed as of December 2006, but the director, Robert Hiltzik confirmed that it needed more work to meet his expectations. It should be noted that the CGI effects will most likely not be completed seeing as how two years after post-production commenced the artists have still not been paid in full. In January of 2008, it was learned that all of the work was finished with the film and that the producers are looking for distributor, and the film will more than likely be release direct-to-dvd sometime in 2008.

Sweet! I really hope it sees that DVD release by the end of the year. It's going to be weird watching the film for the first time, 5+ years after it was made.
I only pray that it is good enough to the point that when I watch the first three, I'll happily include the fourth. That's all I ask for.
