Bubba Ritter, a mentally retarded man is accused by small town rednecks of attacking a young girl. After being hunted down by the would-be vigilantes, he seeks refuge in a cornfield, disguised as a scarecrow. The men viciously murder Bubba and claim self defense, placing a pitchfork in his hand. Soon, the men begin to die in mysterious ways, each one claiming shortly before their death to have seen a scarecrow. Has Bubba returned from the grave to seek revenge? In my opinion, the greatest made-for-tv horror film ever made, and a staple at my house around Halloween. Dark Night of the Scarecrow provides plenty of creepy atmosphere, solid acting, and unbearable tension. Charles Durning gives one of his best performances as the evil mailman, Otis. Comments?

No, not an official release. I know there was talk it would be released on DVD a few Halloween's back, but it never happened. I got mine from horrortheatervideo.com awhile back, but I don't think they're around anymore. I wouldn't recommend buying from them even if they are, as I got ripped off on the second order I placed with them. I never recieved the DVD's I ordered. Oh well, you live and learn.

Yeah this is one I've wanted to see for a long time, its too bad that in the shuffle from VHS to DVD, it got left behind. At least so far, but one can hope!

It hasn't been for quite awhile, atleast that I know of. It used to get played every Halloween on TNT or TBS back in the 90's.

That's good that a second site has info about the release it makes it seem more likely to actually happen.

It does look like it's finally coming to DVD. It is a great watch this time of year as the events take place on Halloween. I have a copy on DVD myself actually but the qualtiy is only like a 7. However, that kind of adds to the nostalgia actually.

Yeah I know what you mean, I absolutely love the old gritty look of horror movies.

My copy is the same way, it reminds me of when I first watched it 15 years ago.

I watched this movie for the first time last night. I even said it to somebody who knows more about movies than me and he never heard of it. I read it on here (actually yall's mentionings of movies on here are helping me find them : D )
Pretty good film. Great suspense, atmosphere, sound and characters.

I love it! I remember watching this on TV when it first came out in 81 (I believe). Scared the daylights out of me. Such a gem. I bought a copy and rewatched it a few years back. Still enjoyed it.
