Of what I've seen so far I gotta go with Hatchet. I haven't seen 30 Days of Night, Behind the Mask or Hannibal Rising yet even though I own it and love the others in the series. I just keep forgetting. So many movies...so little time.

Hannibal Rising was enjoyable. But pretty disappointing for a Hannibal Lecter film. But I really don't think it or the book needed to be done/written. His back story was covered well enough in the Hannibal novel. I think Hannibal Lecter is plenty scary without explaining him.

I think Hannibal Lecter is plenty scary without explaining him. Yes indeed, the current trend of explaining WHY in horror is kind of weak. TCM, Halloween, Hannibal, next is Jason I'm sure. There's more but they elude me at the moment. Things are better left when villians are just plain evil for evils sake. "Purely and simply evil"

Yeah people are being too logical. They need to quit overthinking it and just let the fear speak for itself.

Exactly. As Dr. Loomis said - "I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply evil." That's all we need to know.

Its a tie between Deadwood Park and Hatchet.

I haven't seen some of the movies on this list. I was gonna vote for Planet Terror but I went with Saw IV instead. Great movie and traps!! You would think these movies would start to suck but they are still going strong.

Saw IV was awesome. The games just keep coming and getting better with each contestant. Can't wait for Saw V.

I nominate The Mist, easily. It was the only one on that list, other than 30 Days of Night and 1408 which I still haven't seen and can't comment on, that attempted to do serious horror. I haven't given it much thought, but 2007 was another bad year. The way things are going, the 2000's will not be remembered much more fondly than the 90's.

The Mist was very cool. Just saw it a few weeks ago. I really like Hatchet, The Mist, and Planet Terror.

I actually voted The Mist. The story is just fantastic.
Glad you agree XN.
I was kinda disappointed in Saw IV and my Zombieween fondness has dropped a little also.

All three of those films are great C! I got the 2 disc edition of Mist. Very Cool. Have you watched it in B &W yet? I know the director put a B &W version on the DVD. The Director said it's his directors cut or version that he prefers.

Yes i did. Its a beautiful transfer.I like it better than the colored version.
B&W always seem to make movies more scary IMO.

I definitely feel certain movies work better in B&W. This is one of them.

I agree. I also think 1408 could work in B&W too.

Absolutely. Hauntings can get a whole lot creepier in B&W.
