Imo Freddy's makeup was the best in this film.

Five out of five. I loved this movie as well. I don't know why everyone hate's Alice. I loved that character because I have a lot in common with her. Their are times I want to do something but in the end all i do is imagine how it would have gone. Plus the concept that Freddy had reached the final three kids of Elm Street and would have had no way to even get to the others until Kristen made the mistake of calling Alice into the dream. Then she gains Kristen's power and Freddy uses her to bring people to her. I thought it was brilliant and truely worked well with the other films. Plus I got that somehow Kristen was somehow gaining the strengths of those around her was fine. Plus Alice was not a Dream Master until the end of the movie and I loved how Alice tore into him and had the souls fight back. I just loved all of it and how Alice grows from it and stops being afraid and take charge was good. I love movies where we see a character change its one of the reasons why I watch movies.

Probably the third best of the franchise. Freddy was getting pretty goofy in this one but he was at least funny. "Welcome to Primetime Bitch!" is epic. Nancy coming back put the movie over the top for me. I give it a 4/5.

Alright, now that my head is on straight, thoughts about this....film.
To be honest, it is probably my most watched NOES because it was the only one I owned on VHS as a kid, so naturally, I would watch a movie over and over. So because of this, I can't flat out mock it. It's not terrible, but it was the first sub par NOES in my eyes. I mentioned it somewhere before, but Karate Kid getting Fred's glove in the stomach is definitely a highlight.
2/5

That kid was odd... he acted like he was cool or something but I wasnt feelin it. The dad drinking all day and night was def a cool thing. The replacement blonde who filled in for part 3 girl was so ugly lol

This movie gets worse with each viewing. Brandi and I watch it just to laugh at how bad it is now. Makes no sense at all, Kristen is a horrible actor and is just a giant train wreck. What a disaster following up from part 3. Wow I saw it the night it came out at the movies too lol. I knew at the time it was just OK but nowadays it is easily the worst in the series. I can't say enough bad things about it.

This is my personal favorite of the series. As a kid it was my most viewed and most enjoyed, and it also happened to be the one I caught on television the most. I assume that may have something to do with it placing so high, but there is also a certain charm to this film.
Nobody seems to like the replacement actress for Kristen, and I agree, but she winds up getting knocked off eventually, so it isn't as bad. At least Joey and Kincaid's original actors returned. I believe that what we lost in Kristen we gained in Alice, who is probably one of my favorite characters in the series - up there with Kincaid and Spencer. She came into the situation with practically no knowledge or experience, and with everyone that had known and battled Freddy dead, she had to learn on her own - that was a captivating element to the film.
As Kyle mentioned, yes, this is where the clownish tendencies became very obvious. But as I've said in many topics dealing with Horror franchises, there is only so many times the same thing can be scary. This film seemed to maintain the Horror factor but with a dash of black comedy, which to me is fine, because it shows that those behind the production knew they couldn't keep milking this cow. Freddy will never get back to where he was in the original film, enough don't want to acknowledge the second entry into the series, and Dream Warriors is an acceptable sequel that many feel, myself included, the series should have ended finally. But I tolerate the fourth film because it does three things:
First thing it does is, the special effects. These are amazing. It really was a wake up call to Hollywood. If you ignore the film and just focus on the behind the scenes, it is definitely an interesting and thrilling experience. From an aesthetic perspective, this film is really nice to look at.
Second thing it does is, it allows the villain to do something not many evil-doers get to do - succeed! Yes, Freddy Krueger, bastard son of a hundred maniacs, is able to extract his revenge and knock off the sons and daughters of the parents who burned and killed him. He does this a little under halfway into the film too, so it not only does something kind of refreshing, it allows us to see something else...
And that something else is the third thing this film does. In this film we get to see Krueger go beyond his original plans and step into a new frontier. Having taken out his original targets, he goes from justified vengeance to diabolical mayhem - and I like that! He gets cocky, just look at how he struts down the aisle in the church scene towards Alice, just listen to how he talks straight smack to everybody - he has just come off a huge victory and he isn't being modest about it at all. It adds a new layer to the character, I think, and it really makes the final blow mean something. Alice defeats Krueger, despite his original superiority of knowledge and experience, and he is humbled in a grotesque way before perishing... well, at least until the next film.
Childhood me: 5/5. Present me: 4/5.
