He was talking about being too old to play Freddy when he was working on F vs. J. I hope they get someone slightly younger especially if they intend to do more than one movie.

I just recently saw a new movie with Robert Englund the other night called "Monster Slayer".He really did an outstanding job as the possessed Professor. After seeing his performance in MS,i'm pretty sure he could still do Freddy.

I really don't want to see him play the role again. If it was a sequel that's one thing. But this movie is supposed to restart the franchise. I think for it to work well it needs as little baggage as possible. I just hope whatever it turns out like they do it scary again. Freddy movies haven't been scary in years.

I think Ben Foster would make a really good scary Freddy. He seems to enjoy horror movies.

You know I agree. Foster is amazing and would do the role justice. I'd take him over Billy Bob Thornton any day.

None other then Robert Englund himself, who said he "heard it from a reporter" at ComiCon.
Remember that he also said they were doing a Freddy Vs Jason Vs Michael and JLC was returning...

Interesting, as the last I heard from the other board, PD wasn't involved.
I guess that changed.
And according to the comments, some people still think that A-lister Johnny Depp even has this on his radar, when he is set to make $56 million for another big budget POTC movie. ;D

I could see Depp doing it even if he is an A lister now. He's never been the most conventional actor. And doing something like Freddy would probably be right up his alley.

I agree I don't think he would turn his nose up at it simply because of what he can make now. He's never been one to take a role simply to make money or because its what expected of him.

He was nominated for an Oscar last year, so why would he lower himself to a slasher remake?

That's just it Jer. I doubt he'd think it was lowering himself. He doesn't seem to pick movies based on how critics view them. He picks movies he would enjoy making.

He would also double the budget on what looks to be a low budget film, at least compared to what they can spend these days.
Would his agent and management team see it the same way as they help guide his career to that eventual Oscar win?

Depp kind of owes it to the Elm Street series for his career taking off.

Tom Hanks appeared in He Knows You're Alone and Kevin Bacon was in Friday The 13th, but does that mean that they would ever return to slashers?

Tom Hanks appeared in He Knows You're Alone and Kevin Bacon was in Friday The 13th, but does that mean that they would ever return to slashers? Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon are different. Depp has starred in films from all genres, and unlike those two, he doesn't really care what movies he's in.

Depp doesn't care what the critics think. He just enjoys acting.I'm pretty sure if he's offered a role in the new nightmare remake,he'll take it. I don't think acting in horror movies is low or would lower his standards either. Depp could be Freddy or Luke Skywalker. Acting is acting.

I dont consider slashers as low either but they are considered low in Hollywood. There arent too many Oscars won with horror films. I'd love to see Depp as Freddy. Johnny Depp does like to go for those odd, strange roles. Beats the living hell outta Billy bob Thorton ;D
