I thought about going to see it but I'm worried that I'll be lost watching it since I have no idea who the characters are.

I just saw it, and I thought it was good. This is coming from an anti-trekkie as well. I understood the story and the characters without having watched the original series (Not going to BTW). I give it an 8/10. (Kirk sucks at Hand to hand combat though)

Saw it last night. Thought it was brilliant. Well acted, directed and written.
Full of action, broad comedy, and even somewhat touching at times.
I'd definitely see it again and again
10/10

I had seen it this past weekend, yet I forgot we even had a topic. Now, no offense to Trek fans here, but I found the original series and a couple of the films...quite boring. so I was eager to see what adjustments were made to make this new Trek as entertaining as possible.
They tried and succeeded. I am now officially a Star Trek fan. The movie was watchable from Trek fans and non-Trek fans (me) and I was blown away. Kirk was amazing, Spock, everyone. The plot was amazingly intriging, I wont spoil it for anyone, but it was complicated, but at the same time easy to follow. I love that.
Though the film was extremely...simple. They went in-depth with kirk and Spock, and threw in some characters from the original show (The only other one I knew was Scotty from the line "Beam me up, Scotty") and I can tell they didnt have time to fit much about Kirk after that barfight at the beginning. but whatever.
This movie kicked some Romulan ass. No film is eveyr perfect it seems, even Friday the 13th. so I cant give this a 10/10, but I'll face it with the next best thing.
9/10

I saw this and forgot I was watching a Star Trek film, which to me is kind of good. I didn't need those thoughts weighing me down, and it worked quite well. If only more films could balance it like this, maybe it'd work out...
Anyway, I have one complaint and that is who they casted for Kirk. He did the role well but he looked sort of young, like younger than expected. But I got over that pretty easily, so the film easily gets a 9/10 from me.

The movie was incredible.
JJ Abrams has revived the franchise.

I saw it Saturday. Best movie I've seen all year. Everything was great from the story, to the cast, to the FX, to the sound, etc.. I'll pick this up on Blu-Ray most likely. I really liked the cast they came up with for the ship. Everyone worked perfectly. This movie focused on Spock and Kirk and not the normal Spock, Kirk and McCoy. I was fine with that too. I did like the scenes McCoy was in though. Dude did a great job with McCoy's bitter sarcastic attitude. The interaction between Spock and Kirk was pretty amazing. I loved it when they were both on the screen at the same time.
The only problem I had with the movie was the fact that Tyler Perry was cast in it. I hate that stupid piece of shiz mother fugger. Not even his presence in the movie could ruin it for me though. The movie is THAT good. ;D

It had a strong showing this weekend, making $43 million, nearly matching Angels & Demons. Rachel wants to see it with me, and I am always up for another viewing.

Anyway, I have one complaint and that is who they casted for Kirk. He did the role well but he looked sort of young, like younger than expected. I am not sure what you mean. Do you think they should have waited to make the move till they were all older?
In TOS Kirk and Spoke were exactly the same age, 35. In this new movie Spock is 31 and Kirk is 28. In both examples I am referring to the actors who played them. Surly you couldn't tell they were 3 years apart in age. A human being doesn't look vastly different from age 28 to 31. 3 years is not that far apart. Especially with make up and everything else helping them look the same age. I have looked the same from age 25 to 29 so I am not sure what you mean.
BTW Poor William Shatner

I finally saw it. It was worth the wait. I only wish I'd been able to see it in the theater.

I got the DVD the same day it was released and have watched it five times since.
Jayson likes it too.
I even saw it twice on the big screen (once in IMAX).

I think it's the best Star Trek movie to come out since The Undiscovered Country.

It is up there in my rankings, but Wrath Of Khan will always have the top spot.

Mine too. I doubt they'll ever make a better Star Trek movie than TWoK.
