There is so much Extended Universe material, so it helps to make sense of it.

1. Revenge of the Sith
2. Return of the Jedi
Basically, the two movies where The Emperor gets the most screen time. Revenge of the Sith is my clear cut number one of the saga, so crucify me haha.

for me it's a toss up between a new hope and the empire strikes back. althgough did anyone notice how drastically different Darth Vader looked after a new hope? and anyone notice his voice sounded much lighter in return of the jedi?

Same here, which will probably be soon. I was thinking about it and it's been 2 years already since I last watched them.

No I did not notice that, I have to watch out for it the next time I watch them the only difference between vaders outfit in 4 and 5 were taht vaders outfit in 4 was much more skinny and his helmet was slightly smaller and his cape drooped over his shoulders. alos his inner robes were over his shoulder plates and his chest panel was of different color. in 5 he has a different helmet he is more bulkier the robes are under his shoulder plates and his chest box had different colors and seemed more exposed than in 4 in 6 he had the same outfit as in 5 but had a shinier helmet and his voice sounded lighter and less sinister.

I know Abraxas, I can't figure out how time blazed by between viewings. I usually tend to watch them every 6 months or so as well.
Idk about the voice, I'm definitely going to pay attention on the next viewings. Maybe Vader knew his time was coming to an end because of the hunger the Emperor showed at the possibility of "turning young Skywalker". As well as the fact that he knew they'd be dueling at some point because of this, so he got all soft and wimpy...haha.
This may be just it though...he was humanized more once the family angle was introduced.

I never noticed the different in his voice either. I will have to watch these again to see if I can pick up on it. I haven't seen 4-6 in a while the last one I saw was Episode 3 when it was on TV last month. Its the only one of the new three I can stand.

i have a theroy for darth vaders death. in return of the jedi many people believe vader died because his mask was removed. but in revenge of the sith vader seemed fine whithout it ( after his burning) so i believe that when Vader picked the emperor up in return of the jedi The emperor was still shooting lightning thus since vader was mainly machine the lightning short circuted his life support ( the chest box thing) thus by the time he and luke had reached the hangar he knew his death was already imment remeber this line " Nothing....can stop that now...."

You also have to remember that by the time Return of the Jedi comes around he's no longer a young man, and that he has been on for lack of a better word a kind of respirator for about 20 years so his lungs were probably weak to begin with. But I do agree the lightning had a much worse effect o him than removing his mask since he knew he was dying even before he took the mask off.
I was also thinking that when you stop and look at Anakin's life he is in fact the choosen one that was prophesized about to destroy the Sith. In the end he did destroy the Sith by killing the Emperor and then dying himself. He just fulfilled the prophecy in a way no one expected.

Along with this, there are variations in the Helmet between each movie. May be small but there are different helmet styles between the movies, and even within each movie. Also the chain that holds his cape was not visible until 6, I believe. Wow thats a lo time it hasn't been quite that long since I watched them maybe six months ago, although the ones I have have extra effects added to them, Id rather have the untouched versions, which is what I thought the collection was, not so. I still have the Original artwork VHS versions.

Good points by both Leatherface and Firestar about Vaders death.
Empire gets my vote with anh and Jedi tied for second. I disagree with those rNking sith above any of the originals but I agree sith is best of the prequels.
