I'm stuck in the middle when it comes to this. At times I feel like he's my savior while at others I feel like he has forsaken me. Like that makes any sense, LOL!!

I think that everything happens for a reason, and he is not going to give you anymore than you can handle in a day's time. As long as you believe, you are saved and that is all that matters. I mean, look at all he went through just for us! I have questioned it at times, even got so frustrated I cursed God. But he has a plan for all of us, and it isn't always going to go the way that we would like for it to.

No, I am agnostic. I believe Jesus once lived, but I don't believe he was the son of God.. won't until I see more proof than a book that a King wrote, ya know?

I'm a Southern Baptist, so Christianity is hardcore around here in the "Bible Belt". It's something you can't escape, and it's something associated with the Southern culture especially. It boils down to this: God is real, so is his son Jesus Christ. God allowed us free will, our sin eventually formulated the coming of Christ to die for our sins in exchange for us to be able to "cleanse" ourselves so that we could be in Heaven with God. Having given us free will multiple individuals indulge in other religious practices, or none at all, and some just bounce around like a ping pong ball, but it all comes back to this: God is allowing you to do this. If God wanted to he could make us all bow to him and sing praise 24/7, but that wouldn't make him a fair and loving father. Proof is nice to have, but not when the founding basis of Christianity is established on one principal: faith. When proof is given it's a mere comfort, it makes faith weaker, but when one is forced to endure with their beliefs it strengthens their personal and spiritual stature, it pleases God, and it shows a determination to continue serving and following the Lord. You can have all the proof in the world, and some people just won't believe it - it's that simple, sadly. Just look at all these people who spend their money, lives, and focus hunting Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. Most laugh at them despite all the "evidence" they've shown, so why would it be any different for God existing? Plus, just look around, this world is far too complex for a "Big Bang". A primary misconception individuals have is that "bad things" happen as a result from God, so they stop believing (or never do) in him. These same individuals are quick to forget Hell's ruler, Lucifer, Satan, the Devil, whatever title you wish to address him by. Satan works his own trickery in his war for souls against God, and these "bad things" are his plans coming into focus. Going back to free will to do as we please, God allows these to happen so that we can grow stronger through experience, and learn when, how, and why to apply him to our lives as we struggle day by day to make it. God loves us, Jesus died for us, and Satan will do anything to make people forget, ignore, or worse, deny these two facts. It's your choice whether or not you believe or follow in him, and that is enough proof for me, your free will. Bottom line: God and Jesus exist.

If this were true than you don't need to accept Jesus as you savior to go to heaven, correct? I grew up Baptist and I was taught that then, and after I converted. I was told that even a Buddhist Monk, who lived their life 100% pure would go to hell because they did not believe and accept Jesus Christ.
I find that to be a crock.
Anyways, proof doesn't make faith weaker.. it would solidify it.
I see it this way. I live apretty pure life. I don't do bad things, and I am a nice person, I don't pollute my body or others.. I don't believe in anything at the moment, if there is a heaven and "God" is indeed the Christian God, I feel that I will see proof. But if I don't, well then that is not my fault.
I just refuse to believe in false idols, and well.. if you can't see it, and you are not sure of it, and you feel doubt, then forcing yourself to believe in it would be worshiping a false idol because your heart isn't 100% into it and your mind is not 100% sure.
I think faith comes from the inside, and I think people should not use religion as a way to cleanse yourself and be good. Fuck that. Be a good person and stay clean. Worship yourself because no God will keep a bus from hitting you, a thug from shooting you, or cancer from getting you. Taking care of yourself and being careful will.
I don't believe in "it was his time to die", "God called him to heaven", and other false comforts for death. If God wanted someone to die, then why the fuck would he call planes to hit buildings to kill 3,000? Or call a drunk driver to crush a 13 year old kid under a wheel of a car?
If he wanted these people in heaven, why couldn't they have Cardiac arrest in their sleep and die peacefully?
You get what I am saying?
If there is a God, then he likes to see humanity suffer.
But, I guess Satan is inside of me making me feel this..
P.S. People had free will millions of years prior to Christ and any form of religion. Dinosaurs (that the Bible seemed to "accidently" leave out of the book) had free will. ANY living being whether it be a tree, an amoeba, a microbe, a cancer or a human has free will.

and let me clarify before I go that this was not an attack on anyone's religion/beliefs.
As any belief goes of someone states their belief that is disagreed upon, the disagreeing party usually makes a stand on what they believe.
I still say believe what you will, just as long as it makes you a better person and not worse.

Free will has been around, but so has God.
And, just because you're given free will doesn't mean that there is something you shouldn't do, like accepting Jesus. The free will is there so you'll learn that you need God, or so we're told. That's what I meant.
As for the dinosaurs being left out of the Bible, they weren't. I forget the verses, but they're mentioned during the time of the Great Flood. I'll check into this and get back to you on that.

This is almost to much for me to comment on. I was born Catholic, but haven't gone to church in a LOOOOONG time. I would like to believe in God at times but what Scabby says makes more sense to me and is easier to swallow than what religion tells me. I'm kind of a "show me the proof" kind of person. It seems at times that religion may have been created to keep order like a type of policing. Do good and obey God or you will "go to hell." Strikes fear into people. Kind of like going to prison nowadays. Back in the day there weren't cops and people weren't as free minded as they are now and would quickly follow religion so they won't "go to hell." Its kind of is the same as Monsters and Vampires, and Witches... Etc. these stories sprouted from a time where people lived in fear of the unknown. Today with Science and technology we know more and can see other possibilities like evolution and stuff. And then there's the Alien theory ... believe what you will, but I think.... Be a good person and stay clean. Worship yourself because no God will keep a bus from hitting you, a thug from shooting you, or cancer from getting you. Taking care of yourself and being careful will ... sounds good to me.

I see where the two of you are coming from, and it makes sense. What it all boils down to is whatever it takes to endure through the day, do it, whether it be for God or for logic. I just happen to be for God, and do my best to maintain that.

I just think that good and evil lies in everyone, knowing right from wrong is not godsent, it is taught. People have a conscience because they are taught to.
I am a "Cash and Carry" guy. I have to have proof to believe something. If there was a God, why wouldn't he/she/it be changing problems? Alot of people say "act of God", "miracle", etc.. all of things that can be helped anyways. (such as cancer, etc)..
If there was such thing of miracles, why don't people get cured of AIDS? Quadriplegics walk? People surviving a gunshot to the brain that removes 3/4 of it?
I would rather just be a good person, and be happy. I don't think any religion can do that for me now, especially when alot of people ruin it for me.
But, like I said.. if it's for you, that is awesome. I think having faith is a good thing, and having a belief so strong that people are not afraid to doe because they anticipate heaven is amazing. For me that was never really there... even when I went to church 2-3 times a week for years.

I can respect people like Scabby, people who take great thought and care with their posts and opinions, but when it comes to people like lilevilwitch977... it's hard. She's 14 years old, and I remember being that age, how everyone wanted to rebel and be "cool" by shopping at Hot Topic, listening to Avril Lavigne (even though she wasn't around then, but these qualities can apply to today), and thinking Adolf Hitler is cool because he killed people. So, it irks me when she speaks, because I have this picture of what she looks like in my mind, and it's nothing short of a Nickelodeon cartoon.

See, I believe there was a Jesus Christ (that has been documented, that he did live) BUT I don't believe he was "Son of God". There is more about church than just going to have something to do. The wonderful thing about religion is that it inspires people.. and that is important. If believing in God helps ONE person help another, then it worked. I used to think like you lilevilwitch, when I was 13ish.. I went to church religiously until I was 13 or so. But when you grow up you wisen up and you realize that things are nothign as it seemed at 13.
Like I said, I wish I believed and if there truly is a God, I know I will... but at this time I have to keep my mind open.
And the reason people are dying at alarming rates is because of lack of education. Lack of education creates poverty, and poverty creates crime. All of which are man made.
And some people are complete sadistic sociopathic MORONS.

The truth is man created the idea of heaven and earth. If there is any end of the world it will surely be something we brought upon ourselves. Yesterday it was two of the tallest buildings in the world. Tomorrow entire cities will be taken out before 10am one morning. After that states and so on... This world is headed to our own doom, and there's nothing God or Satan can do about it.
Whatever we call God will not stop the suffering or death that will surely come and is existing right now... We give this power a name to personify it. The power and energy from which all is derived has no personality. It doesn't judge us or reward us or get angry with our actions.
It's energy plain and simple, yet we have no way to comprehend it so we personify it instead. We tell our selves that there in fact ARE golden gates. Or streets made of gold... meanwhile if heaven does exist gold has the worth of dirt here. WE think gold is important, not God or heaven or anything else...
Jesus can in fact save you, that's what the question is. Is he YOUR Savior. Do you take comfort in his teachings? Being the son of God or anything else is for you to believe.
Has he saved you from the insanity that one day the lights go out? That one day you will take your last breath... That one day it's all over and your last day here didn't have to be the most fulfilling, or meaningful because you died knowing that there is something else after this. Cause whether we like it or not, one day we will all have a coffin door shut on us... or have that urn lid closed. Or worse... Do you take comfort in believing the promises of Jesus, that there is an afterlife. In a place we can NOT comprehend...

I'd rather just die happy, and with a belief that if there is a Christian God and a Heaven, that I will go there. I cease to believe that good people won't burn in Hell as according to the Cristian Bible-- which says you have to believe and accept Jesus to go to heaven. I just think if God is sending Buddhist Monks to Hell, who don't hurt anyone and stay pure, then God is no better than Satan. Torturing good and innocent souls. THAT is where I find alot of problems with Christian thinking.
Eye for an eye is bullshit anyways. People make msitakes and if they are genuine mistakes I don't think "an eye for an eye" is fair.
Besides that. if I walk up and blow someone's brains out.. perhaps it was their time to go? Perhaps God called upon me to call them to Heaven. And I shouldn't be punished for that?
Sound about right?
