Good man. My favorite author too. My favorite book ever is "The Stand". And I've read thousands of books.

The Stand is definitely one of his best books. I'm a big fan of Needful Things as well...really can't say there is a King book that I didn't enjoy though.

A lot of people say they don't like some of his later work. I devour whatever he puts out. Sure it may not be as good as his earlier work but even his less stellar work is better than most peoples best. At least to me.

Couldn't agree more. I'll take a 'bad' Stephen King book over alot of people's supposed 'best' work. I do enjoy Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, and John Saul from time to time though.

Yep. I also like Anne Rice and Clive Barker quite a bit. I enjoy Fantasy novels as well. Tolkein is excellent. My current favorite is probably Robert Jordan. His Wheel Of Time series is superb.

I forgot to add Barker to my list, I enjoy his stuff too. I've always wanted to check out Anne Rice's work as I've heard good things, but haven't gotten a chance to yet.

King is the man. The best writer of horror or anything I believe of all time. Nobody can write a character as well as he does and he is just either so knowledgable agout so many things, or a great bull$hitter, either way, his writing is extrodinary. My favorites are It, Misery, The Stand and his short stories. All his work is great though.
I also love Barker. Weaveworld is still my favorite. Wish they would make a movie out of it. As someone who tries to write myself, when I read their books I am astonished at how good their writing is. So good, it discourages me from writing. ;D

I am so glad so many of you read! I am a literature instructor, and it is sad when students do not want to read. It is difficult for me to name one author, as I read many novels, plays, and short stories with my students. Also, my B.A. is in English so I have read a lot. My favorite book is WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Bronte. I know some of you guys may think it's a "chick book," but it really is a wonderful love story that is extremely well written. However, it is not an easy read so if you do read it, take your time. And you may have to read it more than once. I have taught WUTHERING HEIGHTS to 12th grade students and half get it and the other half are usually clueless until I show them the movie at the end of the unit. I show the film with Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes. The Sir Laurence Olivier film is good, but some students do not like black and white. However, I make them watch LORD OF THE FLIES and THE WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION in black and white after reading those stories. As far as horror, a good novel is FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley. If interested, I have a list of Recommended Reading at my Web site: www.tdaentertainment.com.

Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book they've written? If you want you can list more than one if you have a hard time picking more than one. My favorite author is Stephen King no contest. I've loved everything he's written. But my personal favorite by him would have to be "The Stand". Actually it's my favorite book of all time. A close second would be his Dark Tower series. Just excellent. Same here, haha. Except my favorite book is It.
