I haven't seen it yet (Going to see it at 8:45) but I might as well make a review/rate thread. Don't use major spoilers until maybe 2 weeks after release to give everyone a chance to see it.

2, Jackie was the only good thing and even though Freddy was badly written ( not in the usual way either) my god did Jackie try.

It's getting mixed responses. I haven't seen. Doubt I will until it's released in stores unless something precious happens. Reading reviews I am starting to see the common complaints and if those common complaints are true then I doubt I'll be that impressed.

*Sigh* I saw it last night and i was not impressed by it at all. Jackie did the best he could, the problem was the script. I absolutely did not like any of the other cast members. This remake just gathered all the great scenes from all 8 past nightmare films and threw them all in one movie. The back story for Freddy didn't make no sense what so ever..The Freddy makeup was disgusting to look at.Jackie's Freddy annoyed the hell out of me period.
I'm disappointed. I just was expecting to see something a little newer. The entire experience felt like i was watching one big Fan Film.
2
I didn't hate it,but i definitely don't love it.

I liked the make up and Jackie's Fred but the rest was garbage. But then again why am I surprised? This was produced by the same guy who produced the Friday the 13th and directed the TCM remake ( which I despise!). I had hopes that it would be good but no. FYI The guy who directed this was a music video director. What a joke of a movie If you are gonna see it see it for Freddy.

I haven't seen it yet, but from the reviews I've read, it appears A LOT of people dislike this. It probably doesn't help, as XN said, that they took scenes from the previous films and spliced them in there. At best, it seems to be more of a tribute piece than anything else, which would make sense considering the director did music videos.
I won't vote until I see this, which I probably will sometime this weekend. But there is hope, maybe they'll take this feedback, apply it, and make a second film (if there is one) that addresses these complaints.

I won't vote until I see it either which won't be for a . . . while.
Leatherface and Xч , if you had to do it right now after this initial viewing, where would you two place it along wit the others including New Nightmare in that from best to worst?

I just got back and I actually enjoyed it. Jackie carried this movie and that is not a bad thing. The end did seem to bring out the one liners from previous films. The actor who played Nancy just didn't have the same thing that Heather had but the actor who played Kris was great. I look forward to use the free ticket I got to see it again. It would be a 5 but the "How's that for a wet dream" was out of place and brought it down. Again, Jackie is amazing and I look forward to the future Nightmare's.
This is how I rank it:
Nightmare 1 Nightmare 3 New Nightmare Nightmare 4 Nightmare Remake Nightmare 5 Freddy's Dead
FvJ is not a Nightmare film so it will not be ranked as one.

It counts as the 8th Nightmare and the 11th Friday the 13th.

You could say that, but I just wanted to rank only Nightmare films where Freddy had the spotlight. Though the story did follow Freddy and his "children".
One thing is that they cut a scene from the trailer where Freddy becomes Kris covered in blood. I was looking forward to that. They also used a different scene for the attic which was not as good as the original. But, this is still one of the better remakes that tries something new (micronaps) and mixes it will old.

As of April 30th, this movie has pulled in $15,800,000. It still has time to catch up to Friday the 13th s total opening weekend total which was $40,570,365. I expect a flatline in the ones going to see if after this weekend.
If it makes anybody feel better, there next remake I want to say is Monster Squad. Judging by what I have read and what some of you are telling me, I hope this does not get a sequel treatment either :/

Didn't they experiment with micronaps in the third one? It's been a while since I've seen it, but I could have sworn that Kristen, due to staying awake through different methods, experienced them.
Also, as much as I dislike the 5th film, the concept of the unborn child allowing Freddy access to victims was clever.

No, in the 3rd one they had used Hypnosis to go to sleep. Kristin used your powers to bring everyone connected in the same dream.

I think Kwik meant part 4 which dealt with micronaps if i remeber correctly. This wasn't the first NOES to use Micronaps at least i think it wasn't

It might be Dream Master. Honestly, it's been so long since I've sat down and watched these. I need to again, my memory is getting rusty, lol.

I loved the beginning of it. For me it fell apart a little the more Freddy was in it. His delivery just wasnt doing it for me. He read it as if it were scripted and delivered the lines like he knew he was in a movie. It didnt sound natural whatsoever. I actually secretly wanted him to shut up half way through the scenes where he had a lot of lines.
Also the lines were so badly written. Like when he was talking to the boyfriend and he said "What do you want" And Freddy said " You cant go back and bring back the dead can you?" I was like... damn... that's all they could come up with? This is a modern horror movie with one of the greatest conceptual characters ever made?
But yes I did like the first half very much. Thought the 2nd half was rushed. Also having Heather say the same exact line as the blond from JvsF before she chopped Freddys head off, was SO LAME. Think of a new one liner guys! Its NOT that hard!
I rate it a 3. Unfortunately just didnt like the delivery of Freddys lines. Almost just as unnatural as the performance of JvsF. The overall feel of the movie was very cool.

Some statistics: Nightmare on Elm Street's weekend gross is officially $32,205,000.
Platinum Dunes other remakes opening weekends and finals are as follows: Texas Chainsaw Massacre weekend of $28,094,014 finals up to $80,571,655
Amityville Horror weekend of $23,507,007 and final gross is $65,233,369
Friday the 13th weekend was $40,570,365 and a final gross of $65,002,019
So this remake might end of being the lowest overall grossing one yet to date. And DAMN the budget was 35 million and Fridays was like 19 million so it will I guess slowly nudge across its budget.
OK I'm done now ;D

It doesn't help that Iron Man 2 opens this week. If they released on April 15th like they original said, then it would be no problem. I still expect it to gross over 60 million though. I heard that they are already on a sequel but this time it is in 3-D. Fuller said it in his twitter I believe. If it can get a sequel then the first is a success.
