I do agree that some internet fanboys can get out of hand.
Look at it from what I call a "third half" perspective.
This jokingly means that half of the people already love it before they see it, while the other half already hate it before they see it.
It makes sense to reserve judgment until actually seeing the final product, although there is no rule stating that you can't be excited about seeing it or have reservations.
EDIT:
Well, I guess WB will think twice before releasing one of their remakes the week before a highly anticipated blockbuster like Iron Man 2.
It fell 72% to just over $9 million over the weekend.

I agree with what Lord Nobunaga said about if this was the first NOES in the series and would have loved it. I would give it a 3.5 so I have decided to give it a 3 rather than a 4. I liked Haley's portrayalof the role but my beef is the scriptwriters. There was too many one liners and that was unexpected by me. I really thought they wanted to make Freddy scary again and they did in theory but the one liners totally took away from that aspect. The fact that they rehashed old lines didn't sit too well with me either. the "wet dream" line and the "welcome to my world bitch" lines have been used before and I feel they could have done much better. I think the climax was rushed as well. I did like the fact that there was little comedy outside of his lines, and I was glad they went with a good score and not a modern soundtrack. The kills were good and the dream sequences were also good. I like the whole being half asleep micronaps thing because I feel that is what would happen in reality instead of just staying up for days on end and not having things like that happen like in the originals. The tributes were done just right and werent overdone and yes I did really enjoy the backstory on Freddy and the connection between the children and Nancy with Freddy.
Overall, a good movie, could have been better but I enjoyed it just enough to want to see it again and own it. Definately better than almost all of the later sequels where Freddy wasn't the least bit scary and nothing but one liners.
Favorites from best to least:
A Nightmare on Elm St Part 3: Dream Warriors New Nightmare Part 2: Freddy's Revenge Remake Part 6: Freddy's Dead Part 5 : Dream Child Part 4 : Dream Warriors

Ever see Behind the Mask: The rise of Leslie Vernon? Yea that was interesting but I dont think it pushed horror in some direction in any major way.

I just hope it's done well enough to warrant a sequel.

www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=nightmareonelmstreet10.htmWith Robin Hood coming out this weekend and Iron Man 2 set to do well, it will fall just as much, so it is safe to say that it has made the bulk of its money. One comment I read said that it will probably get a greenlit sequel that ends up going nowhere like the F13 situation.

It's around 50 Mill now. Iron Man has 143 Million just in a few days. And Yep with that other movie coming out, this will be one of Pd''s lower remakes box office wise. Who knows what will happen when it comes out in sales. I think this is showing that folks are tired of remakes. PD's sequels BOMB.

Yeah the timing of its release just absolutely killed any box office draw after the first week. I mean anyone could see that Iron Man 2 would just blow it out of the water if for no other reason that it being a mainstream action movie that a whole family can see versus this one which only appeal to an older audience. I actually got to see it this past Sunday night when Brax was in town(I actually got him to see a remake ) I thought it was pretty good, it definetly had good points and definetly had bad points. I really missed Robert's Freddy since he's the Freddy of my childhoood and will always be the one to watch IMO, but I didn't find myself as annoyed by the change in casting as I thought I would be as I watched it. I didn't mind the backstory of what exactly he did, but they lacked the whole sins of the parent visited on the child theme of the original series. All in all not a bad movie, could have been better but it could have been alot worse too. I'll definetly be picking it up on dvd.

Didn't Wes Craven's New Nightmare bomb at the box office but had the legs to sell well on DVD? Maybe this one could do the same, but I doubt it.

New Nightmare dared to not have Freddy appear in a true sense, so that is why it bombed, just like how Halloween 3 and F13 part 5 were not received well due to a lack of the star slasher.
Much like Halloween 3, people gave it a second chance and the overall opinion is now more positive.
I am not sure about how well NN did on DVD though.

Especially for such an iconic figure in the golden ages of slashers!

As far as I am concerned, all of the franchises are past their prime and need to stop for a while.

I can't remember where I read it. Bujt I saw a news story that they've greenlit a sequel that might be in 3D. I think a sequel for this is MUCH more likely than a F13 one due to not having rights issues.

Yeah, they jumped the gun again and started talking about a sequel.
However, as you said, there isn't a dozen companies and people in the way of it happening.
The movie did moderately well based on its $35 million budget, but wasn't as successful as some pegged it to be.

Well for those who love the blu rays and being all expensive, the release date has been penned! Photoshopped cover art for the win apparently I still haven't seen but will at some point. Apparently they are putting most of the stuff on the Blu with a deleted scene, alternate opening and ending. Info: LINK

For all you blu ray lovers out there, on it there is only one alternate opening (which is horrid), one deleted scene which is pointless and one alternate ending (which is better than the theaterical). That's it . They did NOT put hardly anything on even that. But the bare bones Blu Ray and the bare bones DVD had a featurette which should suffice. I just streamed mine ;D
BITCHING TIME!!
Here is what I wrote on FAcebook when I reviewed it
After a long wait finally watched this thing. I have to say I am not a fan of remakes so I think I am being totally fair yet critical of this. If the original was sub par or mediocre itself I would be nicer but since the original and a ma...sterpiece I am not nice.
Things that are good in the remake:
1) Quentin - was the best teen actor in the movie. Most convincing. 2) Jackie Haley as Fred - Had his moments even though why he sounded like he hadn't matured in to puberty as a human is way beyond me >_> 3) The soundtrack was well put together (better than the Friday the 13th remake). Not as good as the dream like soundtrack of the original but modest.
Things that were horrid in the remake:
1) Nancy - Roony Mara annoyed the hell out of me and I wanted her to die She was nothing more than an emo who didn't appear scared at all. She just looked depressed the whole time. I am aware you are tired bitch but for God's sake I don't want to get tired watching the movie too! Massive downgrade from the original .
2) The CGI - Dear God in heaven. EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DREAM SEQUENCE AND KILL HAD 0% practical affects and what made it sadder as it WAS OBVIOUS.. Gah I long for the days when computer didn't override effort but this one takes the cake to a whole new level.
3) Recycling Past sequels in the worst possible way - I consider myself a good fan of the series. IT's likely my third or forth favorite horror franchise. I have seen every sequel numerous times so I can tell when I when I heard that somewhere before. Lines from all the sequels. Scenes from all the sequels (using CGI) and ended with Nancy "welcome to my world bitch" which is the same line that killed Freddy before the beheading which in this case is a neck slit.
4) Jump Scares - Every 5 minutes or less. Actually the loud clanky was every minute or so. With a predictable Fred popping through randomly. IT got very predictable after a while. Very formulaic. No creativity on that front. I have to say even though they were in it every little bit it probably helped keep me alert watching it. Was that the point of them? KEEP ME AWAE??!! Otherwise I got tired after a while.
5) Annoying characters - Every character minus Fred and Quentin was annoying. I wanted them to die and possible be finger raped. There I said it.
6) Back story - kinda blah since the chief of police no longer has significance and Nancy and mommy didn't even have an epic talk about it :/ The boiler room had ZERO significance in this movie yet it kept being shown :S Fred didn't work in a boiler room or a factory in this. He was child banging pedo. I think I liked the springwood slasher better since this movie midway through wanted you to feel "sorry" for him being killed "unjustly" before finally getting to the point toward the end.
I give this movie 2 out of 5 stars. That is VERY generous of me. No effort for Wes's blessing or help or anything. Especially after watching the Last House remake and it not being half shabby is telling. Perhaps it could have been wonders but nope the director for this is dick pee and this movie has Platinum Dunes polished feel to it. The original is a bit more grittier. If the original did NOT exist this would be ground breaking and might get a 3 out of 5 stars. But as it stands a 2 it shall get. Re-watchability is a 50/50 . I will see it again when Gloria watches it. So we shall see until then.
Ranks in the series:
NOES NOES 2 NOES 3 NOES 4 Wes Cravens New Nightmare Dream Child NOES Remake Freddys Dead
EDIT:
Plot holes: If He is a molester, the glove makes no sense. It's pointless. Nobody molests kids with knives leaves marks for parents to see. STUPID and it makes no sense.
Plot hole: They are in high school in 2010 which means their childhood was 90s so it looking like the 70s in flash backs is just plain awkward.
Plot hole: Why is there even a boileroom? Also pointless.
So it eradicated things from the original plot yet kept the scenes for the remake just for . . . kicks?

Oh they really were bad. Zero creativity and line borrowing. And an identical FVJ ending with "Welcome to my world bitch" automatically makes Dream Warriors better than this sack of dung. Everything and I do mean EVERYTHIGN was done with a computer right down to part of Freddys face being done with a computer. Even the blood wasn't done with practical affects. Uninspiring.
Still stands at a 2 out of 5 stars. I only rank Freddys Dead as worse but its still watchable and at least amusing. This one literally put me to sleep.
