I didn't care for this film. I would rather sit around reading the book.

I didn't care for this film. I would rather sit around reading the book. While I'll agree the book is a much better way to spend your time I think the movie is worth watching. But I do think that's mostly due to Tim Currey.

The book is definitely one of King's best. The movie had it's moments, should be viewed atleast once anyway.

The movie has always been an enigma for me. The first half is so good and scary, and then the second half just falls flat, making for a decent movie as an overall package.
I've put the book down for the time being, but being about 300 pages in, it is so much better than the movie...which was to be expected.

I have read a lot of King's work, I plan on owning every hardcover in my collection someday, and I must say that this may be his finest book. The movie was good, not great, I wouldn't mind it being done again. As for the ending, I hate to criticize the genius that is Stephen King, but his only flaw is his endings are usually letdowns. It's the one thing he does not do incredibly.
So, it is not the movie's fault it ended that way, rather King's writing of it.

So, the ending of the movie is pretty much the same in the book?
I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of this either.

Well not exactly. There is a Spider like creature. That is IT's real form. But it was described differently than it appeared in the film and there was a great deal more damage to the town due to their confrontation. I don't think they could have made the ending properly when they made the film. There was no way to do it right then. I think CGI would definitely make it easier to realize the ending right. And I don't usually care for CGI. But as it's described in the book there's no practical way to do the effects. I was disappointed with the ending of the movie. But not surprised they weren't able to do it right.

Great film, Tim Currey was absolutely great in the role as Pennywise he made you both laugh and be terrified but I do have to agree with everyone else that the ending was horrible a real let down indeed.

It sucks because this would be in my top 5 fav horror films had that ending not been there...
Also if they remake it, it wont be as great without Curry or that amazing soundtrack!

I hope Curry has a role in the new films. A cameo at the very least.

I really liked Jonathan Brandis in this. I can't believe he has been dead for almost nine years.
