Chapter three of George Romero's mighty zombie trilogy has big footsteps to follow. Night of the Living Dead was a classic that revitalized a certain corner of the cinema, and Dawn of the Dead was nothing short of epic. Day of the Dead, however, has always been regarded as a comedown compared to those twin peaks--and perhaps it is. But on its own terms, this is an awfully effective horror movie, made with Romero's customary social satire and cinematic vigor--when a "retrained" zombie responds to the "Ode to Joy," the film is in genuinely haunting territory. The story is set inside a sunken military complex, where Army and medical staff, supposedly working on a solution to the zombie problem, are going crazy (strongly foreshadowing the final act of 28 Days Later). Tom Savini's makeup effects could make even hardcore gore fans tear off their own heads in amazement.9/10

Great movie!
The FX are fantastic and the message of the film is powerful.

This has been my favorite Romero 'Dead' film for years. It's my love of the movie that made me wait so long to watch the remake. Bub FTW!

Great stuff. Romero's storytelling and Savini's FX are awesome. Rhodes was a great character also. Could have done without the Bub character but I understand why he was essential to the plot. A must see regardless.

Wow I don't think I've ever heard someone say they didn't like Bub. I guess I can understand it. He was a bit too comical. But he was the most interesting zombie we'd seen so far in the Dead series. The scene where he's figured out how to use the gun was pretty cool. Romero tried to make another zombie with character in Land of the Dead. But 'Big Daddy' didn't do it for me. Actually that whole film was pretty bad to me. I was glad to see Diary of the Dead was better. It would have been terrible of Land was the last zombie movie Romero did. Not a great way to end a legacy. ;D

Without Bub then Day would have been much more enjoyable. Just not on par with the first two and the whole evolution of the zombie which was really noticeable here took a terrible step in Land. Land was awful. Bad CGI and Big Daddy ruined what could have been a good movie. At least Diary was good though.

You are in a very small minority on this.
He is regarded as one of the more popular characters of the series, despite being undead.

That's one of the great things about CLAD. We have people here with opinions that stray from the norm. I see your point Chainsaw. Bub definitely led to Big Daddy. I wont hold it against him though. ;D

Bub showed more compassion then some living characters in the film, notably Steel and Rhodes.

I enjoyed the whole underground aspect of day.The claustrophobic atmosphere and everyone eventually losing their minds was great.I liked Bub, but i got annoyed with some of his facial reactions.I agree that they should have went a different route with Land. The same exact annoyances i had with Bub was presented in land 10 times worse.Big daddy was an irritating asshole. The midget with the ridiculous cowboy hat really irritated the hell out of me too. But i loved Asia Argento.

The pseaking and the salute were just over the top to me. The Rhodes character was the best in that movie.

I don't know if everybody else knows this, but Joe Pilato stars in Wishmaster as the guy who drops the statue at the dock.

I feel that this movie is a "comedown" as well.
I kinda find it boring unitl the last 30-45 minutes - which are spectacular!

This is my fourth favorite 'Dead' film, with Dawn, Night, and Diary being ahead of it...in that order. That doesn't mean I'm not a fan, that's just how much I like all of Romero's 'Dead' movies.
