This strange, 1985 experiment by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) starred the up-and-coming Tom Cruise in a fairy-tale world of dwarfs and unicorns and demons. After the horn of a unicorn is broken, darkness and winter descend upon the world. Cruise's character, helped along by a magic sprite played by David Bennent (The Tin Drum), descends into hell to save paradise. This movie is almost a classic case of art direction gone amok. The somewhat amorphous Cruise doesn't lend much dramatic focus or artistic definition, but the drama between Tim Curry's satanic majesty and Mia Sara's character, who becomes a sort of princess of the netherworld, is pretty captivating. A mixed experience all around that makes one wish it had been more successful Tom Cruise stars in this visually-stunning fantasy adventure in which pure good and evil battle to the death amidst spectacular surroundings. Set in a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins, unicorns and mortals, this fantastic story has Tom Cruise as a mystical forest dweller, chosen by fate to undertake a heroic quest. He must save a beautiful princess, Mia Sara, and defeat the demonic Lord of Darkness, Tim Curry, or the world will be plunged into a never-ending ice age. Co-starring Billy Barty and Alice Playten and directed by Ridley Scott, famed for his remarkable settings and unparalleled imagery, the incredibly realized fable is the stuff movie legends are made of. You'll spook the beast and spoil the trap Tim curry was great as the devil Mia Sara is hot. Love this movie!

I've loved this movie since I was a kid and the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is great.

I enjoyed the theatrical version but I'm glad the European version was included in the dvd package. I'm also a Tangerine Dream fan as well.

Tim Curry is always great to see. This is right up there with Pennywise and Dr. Frankenweiner in his truly great performances. Didn't and don't really care for Cruise though. If I enjoy a movie he's been in it's due to who else is in the film.

The Pennywise character was the most terrifying clown ever.

I don't see how they could ever replace Curry if they decided to remake the film.

It seems like the movie "it" has remained hidden under the remake radar so far. I hope they never remake it.Why not give the independent horror film makers a chance for a change.

Tim Curry was cool but Gump was my favorite. It took me years before I realized they didnt use the real voice of the actor who played him.

I liked Gump and Blix the best. We never got to see what happened to Blix he just sorta disappeared. Oona the fairy, Meg Mucklebones, Screwball, so many great characters. I'm glad its gotten a cult following because it bombed in theaters.
