Hmm, I never really thought about that one. I mean, I recognize The Prowler, The Burning, F13 1 and 2, My Bloody Valentine, etc as the superior films, and I definitely like those better, but I have a weak spot for Slaughter High. I don't know, top 20 slasher of the 80's to me probably.

Definitely blows Madman away. Blows most slashers away. I'm curious to know where you rank Slaughter High.I dig Slaughter High! But it's no Burning. Not even close. Call The Burning a F13 knock off or a Jason clone- but I wish more F13 knock-offs/clones were made in the 80's that were as good as this. Also, IMO - Madman is trash. Hated that movie from start to finish. I thought the image of the Madman in the trees was cool looking and that was it. Unbearable acting! And I can take a lot......

Just finished my first viewing of The Burning. I'm sorry, but this seemed at times to be scene for scene, character for character, line for line a total mimic of F13 2. I see they were both from 1981, but I'm not buying the coincidence stuff. If they were really filmed at the EXACT same time, then one had the others leaked script or a spy on the set or something. Because the first one deserves to be a 4/5 and the copy deserves like a 2.5/5. Just not sure which is which. With that said, there were some very good kills in it and the acting wasn't horrible for an early 80s slasher. I didn't expect the kid from Fast Times at Ridgemont High so I thought that was funny. But Jason Alexander had the best performance. Good kills and gore but often felt like I was watching F13 2 which isn't good since I've seen that one so many times! Maybe Savini turned down F13 2 because he ended up on their payroll off the books anyhow as a spy. Got paid for both! Ok so that just a completely unfounded theory from me, but funny to think about nearly 30 years later due to the uncanny similarities.

I watched this recently and as usual, I was amazed by Savini's gore effects and it seeing Jason Alexander with hair is rather surreal.

I think it's not hard to beat Madman. Madman is entertaining, but it is not good. I think Madman relies more on it's cheesiness than it's effectiveness as a hood horror film.

I just saw this movie for the first time. I saw this listed on here and I was like hmm. Yall need to post unknown great horror slashers more often The previous reviewer was right that it had a F13 part 2 feel to it but it was different at the same time. It had a good eery musical score. The villian was grusome and merciless. Great kills what can I say, and good special affects for a 1981 film. Some of the actors and actreses were likable. Of course I think a movie is pretty bad if I literally want all the actors to die because of just how annoying they are. I liked it. This was pretty darn good for a killer that was not a zombie or something. I rate this a definite 4 out of 5 stars.

Doubt you'd find it there because its not "new". You can find it on Amazon under the used section probably cheaper than new. Go for VHS, its always cheaper than DVD. That's how I do it since I am not rolling in money. If not there, I'm sure something has to be on Ebay. Those are the only two potential cheap places. You have to find Brew even if its just for the boat scene !
