I understand that this movie was considered one of the worst of all time, but I actually found it to be a bit enjoyable despite sucking so badly. of course, I had only seen Jaws 3-D and not the other two. Anyone else see redeeming qualities from this film, and is Jaws 2 worth a look as well?
Yeah it comes far far far short of the original and it is the worst of the Jaws sequels. The only redeeming thing about it is Michael Caine being in it. I don't mind watching it from time to time, its certainly not a first choice of mine, but if its on tv I'll usually tune in and watch it I have a soft spot for the Jaws movies.
As for Jaws 2 I would definetly give it a shot, again its no where near the greatness of the first one. But its not a bad film by any means, it has alot more straight up horror and not so much suspense. It times in with the first film pretty well, plus its the last time we get to see Chief Brody. I always enjoy it when I catch it on tv.

Definitely watch the first two. The first is a great movie. It comes off as two kinds of movies, really. The first half of the film is a pretty straight formula of creature appears, causes trouble, people react and die. But the second half of the film, which most say is the best part, is three different types of men coming together to stop the shark. It goes from a political critique-horror film into an adventure-psychological one (with the shark representing each of the three men's personal demons).
The second, by itself, is an okay film. It's hard to follow up on something like Jaws, but it does all right. I'd say John Williams actually has a superior musical score in this one than the first. If you can, check out the Jaws 2 novelization. It was written, based on the original script, and it's a much darker, more complex story. It explains the shark's motives too. As for the film adaptation, there's a few great scenes to watch. The water skiing scene is nice, and the helicopter scene, as ridiculous as it is, is worth checking out once for the LOL-wutz it provides.
Jaws 3D is pretty bland, as is The Revenge. The shark is pretty lame, as it seems to have a hard time with catching and eating people. The only redeeming factor to Jaws 3D is it, to me, has one of the most conceptually disturbing deaths in all of film -- a man is swallowed alive, forced to either attempt to escape through razor-sharp rows of teeth, drown, or be digested. It doesn't help that he gets crushed, so he probably suffers a horrible few moments of being crushed AND drowning. Other than that, it's too gimmicky.
Jaws: The Revenge is, by all means, horrible. The opening segment is probably the best part, as is Michael Caine's reaction to the shark attacking his plane ("Oh, shit!").
It's amazing that Jaws, the original, is considered one of the best films of all time, while Jaws: The Revenge is considered one of the worst films of all times. It just adds to the mystique of the Jaws franchise.
