Dan Yeager, the man who is donning the Leatherface mask in Texas Chainsaw 3D, has been moderately active on his facebook page as of late, chiming in whenever he can to interact with fans. Yesterday, when asked by a fan if the company would keep the TCM franchise alive, Yeager answered... "I think there's a compelling story to be told going forward (without resorting to Leatherface in Space). Barring boxoffice disaster, there should be at least one more installment, maybe more..."Does this mean that this a new beginning for the franchise, or is this just wishful thinking on Yeager's part? I guess we'll have to wait until January 4, 2013 to find out. Source: Facebook, Cinema Club Frsource HorrorBid.com

The key line is "barring boxoffice disaster." They need to see how well this one does both financially and critically before giving the sequel a green light. Now, this probably didn't cost much to make, so they don't need to make a ton of money to at least break even.
Also, the last thing they need to do is emulate the Wrong Turn or Lake Placid series, as they just keep on churning out cheap DTV sequels with rapidly declining production values.

The F13 and NOES remake did excellent in the box office for a horror movie if I remember correctly. But, there still are no sequels for either of them. TCM 3D will have to make a lot of money for them to green light a sequel. Based on the trailer which looks like a cheaply made film, I doubt it will do that great at the box office.

The F13 reboot also had a massive second weekend drop.

TCM Remake made more money than ANY of the BIG 4 remakes. 80 million. But "The Beginning" made about half that. Those numbers really mean nothing. It's all about each movie.
However America is so simple hearing TCM 3-D will be enough to make it 40 million by the time it's out of theaters.

That is true. Look at the SAW films, not all of them were financial successes when they came out, same with the Halloween sequels, and the Friday sequels. If it's cheap and easy to make and makes a decent profit, there will be another.

The Saw films were also made with low budgets, so profitability was usually guaranteed on opening weekend.

That's what I said. Most horror film franchises have low budgets, thus they are easy to make over and over and over.

Whoops, I missed that. If IMDb is to be believed, the budget to make this was a modest $8 million.

It'll probably make that back no problem.

I don't! Hahha just kidding. Hell, I was happy to see two TCM's come out within 3 years of each other, even if one was a prequel.

What if the movie is total crap? Will you still demand a sequel? Let's not start calling it good based on a trailer. That is just as bad as saying that it sucks without seeing it.
I personally wasn't all that impressed with the trailer and a lot of other people feel the same way.

I'm not too sure about how well thought out the whole sequel thing is. Let's take it one step at a time.

It should be noted that this guy is just an actor giving his opinion on this. Plus, he sees more work for himself if it is successful.

Even if it's total crap ( which honestly it doesn't. Granted it's not as good as the original but none will ever be and that's just true) I'd still be happy for it getting a sequel. Why? because it's a TCM movie. It keeps the franchise alive, and honestly i wouldn't have mind if there was a Halloween 3, or a Friday the 13th 2, or even a Nightmare On Elm st 2. It keeps them going.
