I find it more humorous than anything. It'd take a lot more than 25,000 people per state electronically signing a petition to actually secede. The article says even if they get that many signatures it doesn't really mean anything. I can tell you what it means. The less intelligent sheep that listen to Limbaugh and his buddies are pissed they didn't get their way. Actually I'd be just fine with those people seceding. Their representatives haven't been doing anything more than obstructionism anyway. They need to be part of the solution. Not part of the problem. A lot more would get done if they were willing to work together. But truthfully people that think as anachronistically as they do are becoming less common with each generation. If these states did secede I have a feeling they'd become a part of the U.S. again within only a couple of generations. As soon as those that think like dinosaurs become extinct their offspring would see how ridiculous their ancestors were. ;D

Kentucky, where I live, is one of these states. I don't think it will happen either; at least not to the magnitude of 15 states. Of them all, Texas may.
On one hand, I'd be curious to see what happens. On the other, I know it'd be a risk that could backfire. Still, it would be a powerful statement to the central governing body.

Nothing will come of any of this. The amount of people wanting this is such a small percentage of each state that these petitions shouldn't be taken seriously. A small percentage of people in Texas have been saying they want the state to secede for years. I don't think these people realize just how much of the population thinks differently than they do. Plus without federal money a lot of these states would be running back to the U.S. rather quickly.

You know what proves this is ridiculous and nothing more than sour grapes? The fact that people in states Obama won are starting petitions. This is just Tea Party Republicans throwing a temper tantrum because the guy they backed didn't win and it wasn't even close. They spent money out the wazoo and had very little return for it.

So am I. You know I've always been a Democrat. But I never hated the Republican Party. I disagreed with a lot of their policies but at least they didn't come across as evil. Then the G.O.P. basically gave themselves over to the Tea Party movement and a lot of unintelligent ugliness came to the forefront. Now I can't stand what the Republicans are and have become. Luckily with this election a lot of Tea Party members lost power. In fact if there is any real civil war in America I think it will be in the Republican Party. Between the more traditional moderate Republicans and the severely right wing Tea Party Republicans. America is changing and if Republicans want to be taken seriously they need to jettison the Tea Party and their ridiculous policies.

I really doubt any of the Governors from the states with petitions would support secession. Even in the reddest states I doubt any government official would be that stupid. At least I hope so for the sake of their more mature and sane constituents. I actually saw a petition started by someone in Austin, Texas which basically said that if Texas seceded they wanted an exemption so they could continue to be part of the United States. I've also seen a petition to deport every citizen who signed any of the secession petitions. Oh, and one that says that if a state wants to secede they should be made to pay their portion of the national debt before they are allowed to do so. ;D
