In the Scream films, shouldn't Ghostface actually be called Father Death?

That was the name of the costume the killers wore.

You mean the name of the real costume they based it on? Is that what it was called? If so then no. Father Death sounds too generic.

It isn't a very creative name. But it beats giving it the name of a costume. Ghostface is memorable. He has one of the more popular costumes every Halloween. Father Death makes me think of Father Time or Father Christmas. It would be a silly name for a killer in a film.

In real life the costume never actually exsisted. The robe was inspired by the robe that comes with the grim reaper costume, and the mask was based off an exsisting fun world mask. In the film, on the package the costume was labeled " Father Death" and was never actually referred to as Ghostface. In real life when the outfit was sold, the packaging called it Ghostface ( or just Scream)

Father Death isn't as specific as Ghostface. You say 'Father Death', a lot of people are going to be confused, aside from the hardcore fans, but if you say 'Ghostface' a larger percentage will know what you are talking about.
Between the two, I much prefer Ghostface.
