Not to mention Batmans' villains all have gimmics.
Joker- Tells jokes, laughs at everything.
Two-Face- Obsessed with the number 2, flips his coin for every desicion
Scarecrow- fear inducing maniac
Mad Hatter- Obssesed with Alice in wonderland and hats.
Ra's Ahl Ghul- Is an immortal!
Mr Freeze- Ice motif
Riddler- Tells Riddles about his crimes. Get the picture? Batman's villains are gimmicks every comic book villain is at one point or another.

You do realize that Joker, Two-Face Scarecrow and R'as Ahl Ghul are also cartoonish right? Note that I said "overly cartoonish." The same character can be handled in different ways. Just look at how Ra's Al Ghul was less fantastical in BB, with no Lazarus Pits being mentioned. He was a mortal man who died at the end of the movie. Bane is a character who can be shown as intelligent and sinister (one of his plans nearly killed Batman) or just a dumb thug fed by Uma Thurman's plant food.

Oh sorry missed that Jer. But yeah Ra's fantastical I will agree but honestly I hate Ra's Ahl Ghul so that's just me. But there have been times where Joker has been overly cartoonish or even Batman himself. They change all the time and there is no consistent trend for comic characters. Like for example, Batman back in 1939 was a pistol brandishing maniac, then he became kid freindly then became the way we all know him now. Same with Joker, Two-Face Riddler Scarecrow ect.

Just look at Killer Croc, who ranges from a guy with bad skin to a full on lizard depending on which audience the material was aimed at.
One interesting tidbit to know is that Burton admitted to not liking or reading the comic books when making his movies.

I heard he did like Killing Joke though.

That title was a major reference point for Nolan when he made TDK.
I think I mentioned it before, but Burton praised him for being so accurate to it.

That's cool. But I know Burton didn't like the comics but he did like the character of Batman. Also he had the luxury of Bob Kane ( okay I know he stole Batman from Bill Finger but still) and Jack Nicholson who is an avid fan of The Joker.

Speaking of Killer Croc, I looked at this site, back from the promotional campaign for TDK www.friendsofharveydent.org/And I saw that on the bottom on the right side there is an advertisement for "Croc Jones." So his real name was Waylon Jones, and he's Killer Croc.....so, yeah, I guess it could be possible.

Time to dispel some rumors.
Some people are claiming that Nolan was going to use old footage of Ledger as The Joker like with The Crow. That has been shot down by multiple sources.
However, the studio hasn't ruled out using the character in future films.
In a nutshell, Nolan is politely saying that he made the studio $2 billion in the last two years with TDK and Inception, so he can do what he wants at this point.

Same. Keaton is the master of Batman. Much like how Christopher Reevs is always gonna be Superman Michael Keaton will always be Batman.

Whoopdee do. Ya know how everyone says the first Batman is unrealtsic and cheesy. Well DUH. Batman is a comic book character, comics are cheesy and unrealstic. TDK was nice and all but he felt more like a super cop than a vigilante who is crazy.

He makes a better Bruce Wayne over Batman. Of course why do I get the feeling he still has throat cancer in DK as well, he does doesn't he?? And I agree, Batman unto itself is cartoony. It's geared toward kids with comic books and animated shows. Take all that out and you have a great episode of NCIS Gotham City I'll be watching DK very soon as i finally got a free copy. I saw it in a thrift store today for 3 dollars, dammit all!

I mean yeah he should be a bit for adults too considering his debut comic series was mainly read by adults but not like a cop. Batman 1989 got it right with how he should be. If Batman were real he'd be more like that as opposed to what he is in TDK. TDK he is out in public too much, revealing himself way early on as opposed to Keaton who stayed out of the public light and hid in the shadows

Hmm. I agree. I know hardly anything about the comics now. But I, just judging by what I do know, is the type that hides in the shadows and doesn't really conflict with other police action really. He does is own thing.
Also rumors show this is suppose to be based on a comic called "Batman Prey" which would involve Hugo strange presumably
