I saw it over the week and here are my thoughts about it.
I enjoyed the film very much but there were a few problems about it. First, the score was not right at all and felt like a piece from The Dark Knight score played over again. I know that Hans Zimmer did both but this is almost unacceptable to play only one piece for most of the film and make it sound too similar then TDK. Second, the 3-D was not noticeable and was the worst I have seen. I am a big fan of what 3-D could do but outside of some shots on Krypton, it just was not noticeable. There is a few other small problems but that is the two major ones.
I did enjoy some small connections to other DC characters like Supergirl, Batman, and Lex Luther which will make a JLA film be better under this universe. There is no way Nolan's Batman would work in this world since Superman just is better in every category from fighting to intelligence. I LOVED Russel Crowe's Jor-El and he stole the scene every time he appeared. Henry looked like Christopher Reeve in some scenes which gave me goosebumps. Michael Shannon did a good job but Terence Stamp was better at the roll.
Laurence Fishburne was one of my favorite things about this film and his Perry White was the best one seen on film, and that includes Jackie Cooper. Kevin Costner was average and the character aggravated me somewhat while the '78 Johnathan was a much better mentor. Amy Adams did a fine job and it will be interesting seeing how her character evolves from where this film ends. Diane Lane did a great job and had a great scene standing up to Zod.
Before I forget, there is another negative and that is the fact that Superman did not save that many people, but causes harm to them and the city battling Zod. But, the fight scenes were still well-done and the effects are stunning. The fights are probably rank 3 in comic book films behind Spider-Man 2 and The Avengers. Overall, the film is very entertaining and launches a bigger world that DC should have done years ago. I give it a 8/10.
