Inspired by a similar topic on Friday the 13th, I figured I'd attempt that same type of thread here. Basically, which of the A Nightmare on Elm Street films gets better with each viewing, and which one gets worse? Do any stay about the same?
For me, though it will probably never enter my Top 3, the second film is getting a tad easier to watch each time. I've gotten over how off the wall it is, and how bad some of the acting and ideas are, as well as how sloppy the execution is when it comes to Krueger entering the real or dream worlds. I can see the sinister intent, and it isn't bad, it kind of works... but the rest of the film is a train wreck.
As for which film gets worse. Well, that would also be the second film, because of what I mentioned before. However, since I feel that is a cop out, I'll go with another choice - Freddy's Dead. This film isn't too bad, but it has a different feel to it. The body count is low, and the delivery is very weak. I still enjoy the film (excluding the final minutes where Krueger is brought into the "real world". Again, that was just a horrible compilation of scenes), but it has nothing more to really give.
The fourth film stays the same to me. I know what to expect, and it delivers. The fifth film, for the most part, is practically explored but, sometimes, it gives me a new perspective on and towards the series. I think in due time I could come to appreciate it more, which is odd, because I usually rank it so low and don't have too many fond memories of the film, other than some random airings around Halloween, back when I was in middle school.
