Well, a new generation of gaming is once again upon us. Which system are you planning on getting? Im getting both an xbone and ps4 but i decided to wait until next year for the xbone and pick up the ps4 on day 1 launch. The ps4 is a powerful machine. The little free time i managed to come across on,i engaged a full battlefield 4 multiplayer session with 64 players running at 900p at 60FPS. I also have assassins creed 4 which runs in native 1080p.

I'm not too tickled about either one to be honest, or the less discussed WiiU. With both consoles eliminating backwards compatibility, I feel it would be a waste to sell my library of games or my older consoles. In the past you could trade in the old console towards a new one, because it would play older games. Now, you just keep shelling out more money...
While, this time, the PlayStation 4 is cheaper at launch, the damage was already done last time. Microsoft has made an impression, and with the PlayStation announcing it will now begin charging for online, there is very little reason to pick one or the other - they have, sadly, become practically the same thing, with some technical differences.
Graphics-wise, I'm not seeing anything too incredible. Once the hype dies down and the "polished" previews are looked beyond, there was nothing necessarily wrong with the way games looked before. You could see well enough to do anything, provided you had the right television (another topic for another day, but let me say, I feel there is a conspiracy with game resolutions and televisions), so the only two ways for gaming to truly evolve, to me, is to either have it so you can feel the temperature or sweat from your characters, or to make it a simulated 3D model. I'd say virtual reality as a possible third way of evolving, but the previous two have to happen first.
My X-Box 360 can play X-Box games, music, DVDs, and connect to the Internet. The games I've seen on it look incredible, and jumped hugely from the original X-Box in terms of graphics and appeal, but that same jump isn't as wide this time, and it really shows.
I suppose, having worked in the gaming retail industry, I've seen, heard, and experienced almost everything when it comes to gaming launches. Consoles are becoming too gimmicky, too universal, which is fine, but they're sought for what they include, not what it should do... which is play games. As a co-worker once told me, "The reason Nintendo fails at game consoles is because they make game consoles, while everyone else makes semi-computers".
I'm not too tickled about the X-Box and the so-called "eye" being able to see you, or to lock you out of something if it isn't registered to it. This may have changed, but the fact it was even an issue has me bothered.
I may be done with gaming for a while. I expect the X-Box 360 and PlayStation 3 to, at least, last another 3 years. Just enough time to work out the kinks and bugs of the new consoles, allow some folks more time to buy into it, and then the cycle will repeat itself in about a decade.
If I have to pick one, it would be the PlayStation 4. Sony seems more gamer oriented and less profit oriented, which is something I always got from Microsoft. However, Microsoft seemed to have a better handle on their online program, so I can't totally knock them for squeezing money from customers. I will say, an extra online code for games, alongside the console code, is ridiculous and really needs to stop. The WWE games are notorious for doing that, for example.

Thanks guys.
I second the NES and Nintendo 64. I like the Gamecube, but it didn't have the power-hitting library the other two had. I think this is where Nintendo had their last high point, but dropped. I still do prefer these tree to the original X-Box, and about equal with the PlayStation 2. Many good times surrounding my PlayStation 2, everything from how I got it to today. It's outlasted my original X-Box.
