The Story of Larry Talbot Lawrence Stewart "Larry" Talbot (Chaney) returns to his ancestral home in Llanwelly, Wales to reconcile with his father, Sir John Talbot (Rains). While there, Larry becomes romantically interested in a local girl named Gwen Conliffe (Ankers). On a night of the full moon (which, oddly, is never seen in the film), he attempts to rescue her friend Jenny from what he believes to be a sudden attack by a wolf. He kills the beast with a silver-headed walking stick, but is bitten in the process. He soon discovers that it was not just a wolf; it was a werewolf, and now Talbot has become one. A Roma fortuneteller named Maleva (Ouspenskaya) reveals to Larry that the animal which bit him was actually her son Bela (Lugosi) in the form of a wolf. Bela had been a werewolf for years and now the curse of lycanthropy has been passed to Larry. Throughout the film, Larry is told by Gwen, Jenny, and his father: Even a man who is pure in heart/and says his prayers by night/may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms/and the Autumn moon is bright.(Contrary to popular belief, this poem was not an ancient legend, but was in fact an invention of screenwriter Siodmak. The poem is repeated (with minor changes) in every future film in which Talbot/The Wolf Man appears and is also heard in the later film Van Helsing) Sure enough, Talbot prowls the countryside in the form of a two-legged wolf. Struggling to overcome the curse, he is finally bludgeoned to death by his father with his own walking stick. As he dies, he returns to human form. The Wolf Man has the distinction of being the only classic Universal monster to be played by the same actor in all his classic 1940s film appearances.great read Learned something new...

I was watching the Wolfman on the coach on the way back from me hols and i noticed something i hadnt spotted before..
When Larry firsts changes into the Wolfman he sits in a chair in his room. Hes wearing a white vest then the shot pans down to his feet were we see the transformation from leg level then the next time we see larry as the Wolfman hes wearing the famous Green shirt! or a shirt as it was in blac n white lol
He wasnt wearing the shirt when he changed into Wolfman or when he woke in the morning. He was again in the white vest.
Did the Wolfman think it was a bad fashion style to go out in the woods with just a vest and pants on? or was it a bit chilly out so he put a shirt on?
;D

Killing people in style is important as to leave a good impression, and that vest just wasn't gonna hack it!
This is my favorite classic horror flick.

Great stuff, Tommy! And dude, I would completely want to take a stroll through the woods at night with that silver cane! I love The Wolf Man, it's my favorite of the classic Universal monster movies. The atmosphere is amazing - the fog rolling through the woods, Bela's gypsy seeing the pentagram in the hand of the woman destined to be his next victim. And Larry Talbot is such a tragic, sympathetic character. You really like the guy and wish for some way out of the curse for him.

Yea Winter! I LOVE the cane! I'm glad you loved the Wolfman XN!
Yes BC is correct! The Mummy Part 3 and on are much more enjoyable then Part 1... part 2 is okay but the one's with Lon Chaney have much more fast pace stories to them and more interesting.
Thanks for the smile XN I may add the Mummy but probably the Lon CHaney one.

Why did Larry hate being The Wolfman so much? He spent 3 movies trying to be cured or die... I would love to be The Wolfman! Why didn't he? Because he had to kill a few people?
I'd just hang out in bad areas during a full moon and kill drug dealers or rapists ;D
