Yeah, I don't think Part 2 could've been any better. It's almost as entertaining as the first one to me. Dick Warlock is my favorite Michael Myers, I thought he did an awesome job.

Just watched Halloween 2 TV Version from the new Shout Factory BluRay release!
I have seen this version before but this high quality DVD was a must watch. This time around it really hit me... the TV version is soooooo much better than the theatrical!
So many aspects of it are an improvement while some are a little off. But the balance definitely weighs in the favor of positives! The pace is much faster, there is FAR less Michael Myers on the screen. For that reason it feels like the 1978 movie again. A lot of the pointless scenes are gone. The news people dont repeat the same things 5 times in this version. Almost all of the gore is gone and half the kills never happened. Which makes the movie feel like the original and all the kills are THAT much more important.
A lot of the scenes with bad acting or cheezy writing is gone. For example... " I was trick or treated to death tonight" "You dont know with death it!" que music! Or " I shot him 6 times, I shot him 6 times, I shot him in the heart" is completely gone too. Michael goes to the Elrod house long after Loomis meets up with Bracket in this version. Yes both those lines are memorable and iconic, the the cheese of the music que (in the first line mentioned) and the bad acting (shot him 6 times) makes those lines better off remembered and not revisited.
Michael not killing the girl across from the Elrod house is a huge improvement. That was the most random pointless forced kill. Nurse Janice not getting the needle in the eye was another kill just thrown in to add gore. However the amazing seen of Michael coming in from the dark is lost, which is a down side. Dr. Mixture is no longer dead (just missing) same with Mrs. Alves.
Which brings me to an odd scene... they squeezed Jimmy slipping on the blood in with the explosion of Michael and Loomis. It was just really distracting. They tried to make it work but it just didn't.
This version makes Michael appear much smarter as well. He doesnt stab the pillows Laurie put under the blankets to trick him. He realizes there is something strange and lifts the blanket and throws the pillows on the ground. Michael benefited the most in this cut. You see great shots of him you never seen before... you see much less of him and he remains much more mysterious as he did in the original. He no longer gets shot 7 times in the re-creation of the ending of the original. They edited one shot out of the next batch of bullets.
The only down sides are the overdubbed voices. They are much more clear then the audio shot during the movie, since they recorded those on a sound stage. Laurie has a few odd reactions to Michael. Maybe I just think they're odd because I'm not used to them. Yet I thought they seemed forced and over reacted. The scene where Laurie visits Michael at the hospital in her dream, I SWEAR they have a guy doing a girls voice saying "please dont be mad at me Michael, please dont kill me" Why on earth would Laurie have ever said that to Michael at that time. She was unaware that the boy she was visiting was the killer of 1963.
One more down side was because there were extra scenes not in the original cut, they ran out of scores. I COULD be wrong but around when Jimmy is looking for Dr. Mixture, they have 3 scenes in a row that play the exact same music. If it was'nt exact it was close enough to be noticeable. Also the music is much louder in this DVD cut than in the theatrical where it is much more subtle and in the background.
Overall the ratio I will watch the TV compared to the theatrical is probably 3 to 1. It's a shame too because I'd love to see the movie at 1080p with 5.1 surround... but the Television DVD is the far better watch for the Halloween fan who wants the feeling of the original closer intact in their Halloween 2 viewings. Buy the new bluray with Television DVD HERENot sure if this is the same as the DVD I have but it may be close

Thanks for the Youtube link. After hearing how much better that cut is I'll watch the YT video instead of the regular version on Halloween. I recently downloaded a torrent with all of the Halloween films. So I'm going to have a marathon of as many as I can get in this year. Which will be the first time I've ever done that. So once again thanks for the link. It should make Halloween even better this year. Camper killed.

That would be sweet! I haven't had Halloween 2 on DVD in about 4 years. The only ones I own right now are Halloween 3 and the 2 Rob Zombie Halloweens. I'm limited to what I can buy at Walmart. ;D I still can't believe they had Season of the Witch in one of the five dollar bins a couple months back. So you sharing the tv version with me is great. Because finding rare versions online are pretty hard. Camper killed.

The censoring of the TV cut is quite amusing at times. Julie's full of sugar!
