Gawd, I'm going to be so unpopular on these boards; I don't like Kane Hodder and now I'm going to complain about the original "Nightmare"... First, I DO like this movie; I gave it 3 out of 5 stars...still there's a lot about it that bothers me. For me, Wes Craven is a real hit and miss director and IMO he usually misses. I gave "Nightmare..." 3 out of 5 because it's a great idea...a lot of it is creepy moments...it really taps into a primal fear that we've all had...On the other hand, I think that this is truly lazy filmmaking... Examples: Nancy tells her Dad that she's going to get Freddy, she'll be back in 20 minutes and she wants him to be waiting when she brings Freddy out of her dreams...then she goes about booby trapping the entire house (that would take...what; 3 hours?), she sits down and has a heart to heart with her drunk mom (another half hour minimum?) and then proceeds to go to sleep (10 minutes?), looks for Freddy, gets chased, catches him and then pulls him out...and this all happens in 20 minutes? Puh-leeze!...I still don't entirely get the ending...and then Marge is pulled through that window that NO human body could fit through...I understand that these might be small things (well, not the time thing), but that's part of why they bother me. They would be so easy to fix and Wes chose not to or didn't notice...either way; Lazy filmmaking.

wow thats food for thought i think that the twenty minute factor dont matter. she set up the traps and talked to her mom and went to sleep. in twenty minutes. after she went to sleep she never woke.i think she dreamed she pulled freddy out and everthing after that. and when freddy pulled her mom through the window she was still dreaming. he couldnt get to her but he got to her mom.

Yea maybe looking at it wrong. If you take these movies too seriously then you definitly wont enjoy the fun in them.

Oh, like I said, I DO like it, and I do think it's fun and it's a great concept I just think Wes misses the boat sometimes. It in no way ruined this movie for me though...not like 'Shocker'.

You know, honestly, I watched 'Shocker' when I was trying to see as many of Wes' films as I could before I made my decision about his filmmaking...I've only seen it the one time and I can't remember what the specific reasons were that I didn't like this movie. I do know that in trying to develope an educated opinion about Wes Craven, this film didn't help his cause at all and I know that it left me with no desire to go back and watch it again.
