Ebert & Roeper reviewed THE STRANGERS on Reelz Channel. Roeper did not like it, but said the movie was well made. Ebert was out, but the man filling in for him really liked THE STRANGERS. They got into an argument.
In most reviews I have read for this movie either the reviewer loved it or disliked it. I have not seen any middle of the road reviews.
What makes it scary for me is putting myself in the situation they were in. Like most horror films, it is all psychological. I believe Wes Craven has spoken about this before. A lot of movies are not scary, but what the viewer already has or places in his or her mind can make the movies terrifying.

I just thought it was good. It looks like there could be a sequel by the ending. I would like to know more about The Strangers and how they came to be. I think I would have been disappointed if I would have went to the theater to see it. I'll get it on clearance when it comes to my collection but I'd recommend people to rent it first before buying the movie when it comes out.

I saw this the other day. "It sucked" is a perfect way to sum up this garbage.
No originality at all. They even ripped off The beginning of the Texas chainsaw Massacre movie.
The entire movie made no sense.

I noticed the writer used foreshadowing at the beginning of the story. I didn't realize it was from TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
Roger Ebert gave this movie 1 1/2 stars, and said the director has potential. Whether people agree the director has potential or not, he will work again because THE STRANGERS has made about $50 million and counting. I understand he is still writing screenplays, but have not heard anything about him directing again.

I wish they didn't have the scene where those boys asked the girl if they were sinners and she said sometimes and then they just drove away in the truck. I thought that was the stupidest part.

I agree Stinger. I think the director had good intentions with a bad movie.
As much as the underwear mask was compared to Dr Decker, imo i never saw the comparison.

I mean, I can tell that the director/writer had believed it to be a good film himself (dont get me wrong it was very well-made) but he had some miscalculations on the dialouge and plot. Maybe if they had a stronger writer, it would've been the next great shorror film.

The weakness is in the writing. Unfortunately, that is the case for a lot of movies.
