As most of you know there's a period where the quality of the Universal Monsters Classic Collection took a dive.
I will give you a list in somewhat of an order which movies are a part of this decline. Some I agree on and some I do not but here they are.
Ghost of Frankenstein House of Frankenstein
Daughter of Dracula Son of Dracula House of Dracula
Shewolf of London
The Invisible Woman The Invisible Agent The Invisible Mans Revenge
The Mummy's Tomb The Mummy's Ghost The MUmmy's Curse
Revenge of The Creature The Creature Walks Among Us
All these movies were seen as the
Friday the 13th Part 5-8
Nightmare on Elm Street 4-7
Halloween 3-8
and Texas Chansaw 2-4 of our time.
Some people love them and some think they a waste of time. I'm curious how you guys see them. Maybe I sound like those people who say they love ANYTHING with Michael Myers in it but I have too say this. I love the performances of my favorite classic actors. I love to follow there mysterious carrers. I wanna see what they did after their big hits. I wanna see if they stuck around till the very end. I wanna see how good and true they were to their charcter by the end of it all.
The argument is you can put anyone in a Jason/Michael Myers mask (and they have) and call it a Halloween and people will love it. However I need that core of actors there for me too stay interested. Karloff, Lugosi and Chaney Jr. Without them I think these movies fall flat. Which is why I'm not a big fan of the Invisible Man sequals nor the Creature from the Black Lagoon sequals.
Your thoughts?

I wasnt very thrilled with the Creature walks among us. But it was still entertaining. I tink it was the weakest in the series. I loved all the frankensteins. Havnt seen all the others yet. I need to catch up!

The classics will always have a special place in my heart. No doubt about that. But i truly can't understand why so many people dislike Dracula's Daughter.
That film had good acting, good atmosphere and to me Dracula's daughter herself was beautiful. The very first time i saw that film,i fell in love with it.
If i ever had the chance to remake this movie,i know exactly how i would want it.But for now i truly enjoy watching Dracula's Daughter as much as i enjoy watching all the classics.
In order for a horror movie to be bad in my eyes-it has to be really really bad.Like kyle said a few months ago, when it comes to horror i just love everything it has to offer. I see the beauty in all horror.
Just a few horror films in IMO isn't worth my time .

One thing that separates the B movies of the past from more recent ones is the ability of the studios to get fairly big name people to come back for them. Look how many of those B movies have Lugosi/Karloff and Chaney. The days that a 3rd or 4th sequel having any of the originals come back are fairly rare in horror anymore.

Great point! My thoughts exactly! It's so cool how those 3 guys had so much love for their roles.

Those guys (Lugosi, Cheney Jr., Karloff, Price, etc.) loved the genre they performed in and didn't mind being branded a horror movie actor. Today's actors, for the most part, are too worried about being tied down to a certain genre and don't want to work in horror films.

That's because today's actor is only concerned with image and making a fortune and not with the quality of the characters they portray.

ill have to find a job so i can buy some of those and some that iwant of the modern classics You don't have to neccessarily buy them. You can always go to your local library and check if they have any, or rent it from Blockbuster or another store like that. No matter how you do it, you should really try to get a viewing of all of those listed. I remember when these guys first introduced me to the Classics it changed my view on them forever.
