This was an interesting film, especially for when it was done, and one that I consider worth watching once, maybe twice.
The whole concept of an alien goo feasting on Earth's population is so appealing, but at the same time corny; The perfect balance for a film, I think.

I would only watch it to poke fun at the FX.
In one scene where the blob is going through a building, you can clearly see that it is toothpaste and cardboard.
Even the remake didn't do the creature justice.

Even the remake didn't do the creature justice. But the remake had the scene where it pulled the guy down into the sink hole, that was crazy... As for the toothpaste and cardboard, that kind of stuff could scare people back then. Imagine with the technology we have nowadays, the impact we could have had.

I never saw it... I went to buy it about 5 years ago and the only place I could find it was Suncoats in the mall. They wanted $40 for it! I have no clue why... as you can guess I never got it.

That's a shame, being $40. I refuse to pay that much for any ONE movie, maybe a boxset or bundle or something.

First saw this one when I was like 12 on AMC. Not a bad little film. Steve McQueen looked so young!

Both versions are really quite good. even with the bad effects. Having something so shapeless coming after you is scary.

Criterion dvds are usually always expensive. I got mine during a 50% off sale, so it wasn't too bad.

Although I liked it, this is one of the rare exceptions where I like the remake better than the original.
