Plot: Prof. Van Helsing is in danger of prosecution for the murder of Dracula...until a hypnotic woman steals the Count's body and cremates it. Bloodless corpses start appearing in London again, and Hungarian countess Marya Zaleska seeks the aid of Jeffrey Garth, psychiatrist, in freeing herself of a mysterious evil influence. The scene changes from foggy London back to that eerie road to the Borgo Pass...
Acting: The acting is Fantastic. Gloria Holden as the Countess Marya Zaleska is believable and gives a spooky performance,,i liked it,,i liked her a lot Edward Van Sloan also returns and reprises his role as Van Helsing,,and gives a memorable performance... Gore: None T&A: We get a small scene when Countess Marya Zaleska asks the young girl to pose for her,,then she takes off her blouse,,unsnaps her bra,,but no tit shot Bottom line: This is a direct sequel to Bela's 1931 Dracula. The story is awesome, and i was also glad to see Edward Van Sloan return again as Van Helsing..the man is amazing and he had great dialog.. Overall a great movie,,Fantastic movie..i liked this much better than Son of Dracula... If you loved The 1931 Dracula you will appreciate Dracula's Daughter...
And Beware of the deadly Countess Marya Zaleska
If you see her,,you might need Van Helsing to drive a stake right through her heart.
Good Hunting
9.5/10

I absolutely love this movie It was the first movie to show the more human side of the vampire and the first to have a female vampire as the main villian and the acting was incredible. The scene of the girl posing was realy ground breaking for its day, especialy with what most people consider lesbian undertones.

Wow I really gotta give this flick a second chance! I actually didn't like it at first... I wonder what I thought was missing... Maybe I'll check it out tonight!
Thanks for the review!

One thing that is missing is count Dracula himself but you can feel his evil spirit lurking with the countess though... But just to see Van Helsing return gave a direct sequel feel to the first film Dracula...and the story line picked up right after Dracula ended with Van Helsing being arrested for driving that stake through his heart...
But i guess i like Mysterious Beautiful evil women..lol

My Review of Dracula's Daughter Okay now I remember why I didn't think of this movie ever again after seeing it. I hate to disagree Jack but here's how I see it.
I watched this movie yesterday after seeing this review. I did it because I don't remember anything great about it after seeing it the first time, and I feel the same way the 2nd time.
Okay the good points, Van Helsing's voice just brought you back to part 1. The Daughter of Dracula had a 30's gothic feel to her in terms of looks but she was a tad overweight for the part. That's it...
Things I didn't like much: Okay the dummy Dracula in the coffin was lame but that kinda stuff always happenes in these movies so that's fine... I thought the relationship between the main male and his sister? maybe girlfriend was a bit unfitting. I was very disapointed in the fact that if she didn't say she was Draculas Daughter you would have not even know you were watching a movie about vampires.... Actually if the name Dracula or vampire were never said you wouldn't have known it was a vampire movie at all... She did absolutely nothing scary or cool or gave any sign she was a Vampire... The most she did was get out of a coffin at sun down.. once... and they didn't even show her get out (much like Drac in Dracula). But it didn't have the same feel or impact or mystery in the least. Basically nothing happened in this movie... it was a none story... It was a slow build up to nothing..
They didn't even put the time into showing no reflection in the mirror... she even held a cross in her hand and it didn't hurt her in the least... At one point she even wore a white dress
I don't don't get it and I will never watch it again... in responce to XN I don't think it even comes close to Son of Dracula. Son had a much better story and atmosphere. I'd rather see Lon Chaney Jr. any day then the daughter of Dracula.
I give this movie a 1 out of 5 stars for lack of effort. If you're going to make a movie with the name Dracula in it, it has to be more eventfull then this. Sorry... I did give it a chance.

Great review.. But i still like it...lol
The countess was a lonely soul living in the darkness,,feeding,,and having no feeling what so ever..when her father died (Bela Lugosi Dracula) she wanted the curse to be lifted so she can live like a normal person,in the light, and find true love..
Sure the film didn't have much effects for a 1936 film,,but we have to realize that the budget was low during these days due to the war and great depression..so we really can't expect much...
Do a comparison with Bela Lugosi's Dracula and the spanish Version Dracula...The spanish version had better effects and explored more,,because they had more money to work with...Slip the Dracula DVD in your player and skip to the special features..(i know you already know this but there is a fantastic documentary on Bela and how the budget was so low.....
But back to Dracula's Daughter..i still love the film..i don't know.. but i was drawn too the countess..like i said before i must like mysterious evil women ;D
And as for son,i also enjoyed the movie as well..i just would of loved to see more kills to balance the scales with the romance..
In the original 1931 Dracula,we got kills, off screen kills, but i love the way they leave it all for the viewers imagination...
In son it was just a lot of talk, but the effects was fantastic...
I'm a little skeptical in seeing House of Dracula..i heard sooo many people didn't like it for some reason...

Just saw this movie again this evening...and i would just like to add that the countess seemed to not agree to the kind of Lifestyle her Father Dracula led...deep down she longed to be different,,to live in the light like normal people...
That same perception can be applied with kids today i guess,,,some kids don't like what their parents do..especially if its sucking blood and turning folks into nosferatu....
And for a girl she felt she wanted out from all the killing,,,my wife told me this just now...

Drac's Daughter is a good one. It is very overlooked. I also like Son of Dracula with Lon Chaney Jr. in the title role.

But i guess i like Mysterious Beautiful evil women I have to make a confession here. I found the countess to be down right sexy. I don't know what it is but I love dark/goth/evil-ish women and Myra Zeleska (spelling?) was just damn sexy to me. Maybe part of it is because of the scene with her and Lily, but damn...there is something about her. If she were real I guess I would be not hard to turn into a vampire. ;D

The only thing I don't understand is how can she hold a crucifix without it hurting her? Or, does it hurt her and she simply takes the pain?
