Plot:
Lon Chaney Jr. portrays Larry Talbot, who returns to his father's (Claude Rains) castle in Wales and meets a beautiful woman Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers). One fateful night, Talbot escorts her and her friend Jenny to a local carnival where a deadly fate is revealed by a mysterious gypsy fortune teller (Bela Lugosi).
Larry's dark journey begins when he responds to a women's scream in the forest and arrives in time to see a large wolf attacking Jenny. Larry beats the wolf to death with his cane, but is badly bitten and too late to save the girl..
Capt. Montford (Ralph Bellamy) and Dr. Lloyd (Warren Williams) insist there hasn't been a wolf in the vicinity for many years. Villagers find the body of Bela the fortune teller, not that of a wolf next to the woman.
The next day, amid questions and suspicions, Larry finds himself recovered so fully that even the wolf bite is healed over, undermining his account of the night before.
Thus the legend of the Wolf Man unfolds... and becomes a horrifying reality to Larry Talbot and those he loves.
Acting:
The acting is Fantastic,as so many people before me said..Lon Chaney Jr's wolfman character belongs to him..no other man could do the character the way he did it...And Chaneys charisma with the ladies is highly respectable..i mean not all men have the wit to take 2 gorgeous women into the dark foggy woods...Amongst the coolest characters in the film were the gypsies. Bela Lugosi makes a small appearance as a gypsie called...."Bela"<--cool name huh) Bela Lugosi Dracula gives a strong performance as usual..
Bela's mother Maleva played by Maria Ouspenskaya also gives a strong performance, outstanding job as the Gypsy who trys her very best to Help Chaney get rid of his curse..i sure wish i lived back in those times so i can just shake her hand and congratulate her on a job well done.
Gore:
None
T&A

Bottom line
Lon Chaney's wolf man hit a spot in my mind i thought no other werewolf film would do other than underworld,,for a man of my taste how can i fairly judge these 2 great werewolf films..I came to this conclusion: this is my own idea i thought of to help me connect this awesome movie with the underworld films..well considering that Chaney was bitten by a wolf (Bela) i came to the conclusion that Chaney could not fully transform into a wolf, just a half wolf half man. And the wolfs in underworld was caused by a virus that fully transformed the person infected into a savage beast. But please don't get me wrong the halfmanwolfs also have super strength and can run really fast and jump really high,,like the remake wolf demonstrated to us.
In my own conclusion to become a man-Wolf you have to be bitten by another Man-Wolf..then that person bitten bites other people and turn them into Man-Wolves...To become a savage underworld wolf you have to bitten by another wolf infected with the virus..The origin of the virus is unknown(Maybe Dr Frankenstein created it when he was playing god and accidentally leaked out....i'm going way ahead of myself here) lol So all in all my friends i have found another number one film,in my werewolf category..that goes by the name of "The Wolf Man"
