I love this movie! I just watched it this mourning. I have a theory of the different shapes of the werewolf: Bela's actual wolf versus Lon's half man half wolf.
Bela the Gypsy fortune teller was born a werewolf. He was born with the curse, there for he turns completely into a wolf. Lon was not born with the curse. He has aquired the curse through being bitten, so he does not completely turn into a wolf, but rather half man half wolf, but still has some reason in him left. Remember at the end of the movie when he had Gwen in his arms he could have easily killed her but he struggled.

How come when the Gypsy told the others that there was a Werewolf lurking they all left? Yet they stayed there when Bela was right there with them and killing people?!
Why was it ok when he was one but not Larry?

Maybe because they were realted and he'd been one long enough he could control himself enough not to hurt the ones he loved? Good question.

Perfect would be with the wolfman costume you have..lol ;D
U know D its like this man..when you're doing 2 things YOU really enjoy doing at the same time..the pleasure is double. You should really try it.
I really wish i had your wolfman costume dude.
Lon Chaney Jr's wolfman is my number one werewolf film..The film officially replaced underworld that use to be number 1. Cheers

I wish i could actually download the music video instead of being limited to youtube.

One theory about the half-wolf and full-wolf is, maybe the longer one is a werewolf, during each transformation, they gradually become more and more like a wolf and less like a man? Just a thought. I like that a lot. makes sense

Of course that theory doesn't hold much water when you consider how many years pass between Larry's first transformation in the Wolf Man and his last one in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. He didn't seem to be getting more wolf like. In fact if you wanted to really be technical he seemed even less wolf like because in A &C he wasn't doing the arched feet thing. Of course that was due to it being cheaper doing it that way. LOL

Well they weren't worrying too much about the technical in that film. I mean you can see Dracula's reflection. LOL But it's cool because the movie still rules.

Actually Demon and I were discussing that not long ago. we think that's probably the best explanation so far.

I still think Lon Chaney had some sort of immunity that didn't allow him to turn into a lycan.something in his blood is fighting the infection.
Look at Jack Nicholson's wolf.I just realized he was bitten by a 4 legged Lycan, but yet he turned into a man-wolf.Maybe jack had the same immunity in his blood too that only allowed him to transform half way.
So if somebody like Jack or Lon Chaney attacked another person they pass whatever they have inside of them into the new victim, and thus the victim adapts the same man-wolf characteristics.
If what rich said is true, then how come none of the people bitten by Lycans turned into Man-wolfs in underworld?

Different universes so different rules? Maybe in Lon Chaney's Universe the only way to have a pure Lycan is for a Lycan to breed with a Lycan or human and have a baby. So when a Lycan bites a human the resulting werewolf is a Wolf Man. So I'm guessing Bela's Father was a Lycan.

I'm watching underworld right now.I really love the werewolves in this movie as much as i love Lon Chaney's wolfman. I really want these 2 types of wolves to exist in the same universe.
