I watched films that were made by Lon Sr. and Jr. I honestly have a hard time picking which of the two is my favorite. I really liked "The Phantom of the Opera" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and I liked "The WolfMan". I have also seen the film "Man of 1000 Faces" where Sr. was played by James Cagney (one of my favorite actors). So I will just say that I like them both equally, and they were both so incredibly talented, especially when you read about what they went through as actors for their roles.

IMHO Chaney Senior doesn't hold a candle to his son. Creighton Chaney was a much better actor and had much more enjoyable movies to me. From his portrayal as Lenny in Of Mice and Men to Larry Talbot in the Wolf Man to Alucard in Son of Dracula he was amazing.

I agree. Lon Jr. was a very talented actor, not that his father wasn't...I just enjoy his performances much more.

I did enjoy Lon Jr's performance in "Of Mice and Men". He and his father came from two different eras in film too. Sr. was a silent star whereas his son was in the "talkies".

Mr. Sr is the greatest silent actor ever! Mr. Jr dominated speech cinema. I consider them the dynamic duo of excellence.

I'm with Kyle. I like Chaney Jr. more. I respect when Chaney Sr. did for make-up and his work, but his son made so many more movies that I enjoy. Perhaps if most of Lon Sr.'s movies have not been lost by time (such as London After Midnight) it would be different. Sadly none of us will probably see most of Lon Sr.'s work.
