The movie is cool indeed. I really liked the beginning right before Barbara was forced to wear the mask of Satan. The whole lightning and dialog really sent chills down my spine.

I'm rather easy to please. If I can find "something" in a movie I like, I will enjoy the movie. Different movies work for different reasons. The Exorcist was scary because of the concept about an innocent child being corrupted by evil. Friday the 13th was scary because you are out in the wilderness, being watched, icsolated, with no one to help you. Halloween was scary because of the all American town feeling. It was a threat in modern suburbia. Nightmare on Elm was scary because of was terror from within one's mind. Dracula was scary because of the concept that it takes liquid infusion to turn one into a vampire. One can compair the mythos of Dracula to the aids virus. Dracula is a sexual errotic character. One must drink his blood and he drinks theirs to become a vampire. It is the blood transfusion that makes the transformation. Frankenstein is scary because you have a man creating a being that causes destruction...kind of like nuclear bombs created by mankind. You see, what I personally look for more then anything else is concept. Anyone can say all horror films are the same, but I think it takes a true brain to try to kind something unique in a genre vastly critically reguarded as taboo. One would say that Friday is a Halloween knock off, but they would blatantly disreguard the psychological connection between mother and child, not to mention the superstitious fear of urban legends and iscolated mass hysteria, which Friday utilizes well which differentiates it from Halloween. So, what it comes down to is, what are you looking for in a film. Some people just want to see blood and violence. For me, it is really all about concept, but the violence really just validates the concept...without it there would be no threat...no concept...no story...no movie...no message board.

Well said, Rich. I agree that, to me at least, it is not just about blood and guts. I get so frustrated when trying to bring this point across to people in real life. "If it doesn't have someone's head being chopped off, he won't like it"...I get that so many times and it is simply untrue.

Nice Rich, but what did you think about the movie in this thread?
Dude, never count on my word alone.
I have a profound taste for horror, but not everyone likes the movies i like.
I'd describe your taste in horror as broad. You are a lot easier to please/ are more forgiving when it comes to horror. Now don't take that wrong and think I'm saying you have bad taste. I'm just saying it takes a truly crappy movie for you to say something bad about a horror film. I wish I had that ability. I am actually fairly open minded compared to some horror fans. But you really take it to another level.
I can't believe i missed your post Kyle. Thanks a lot for understanding. You're right,i do have a broad taste in horror.I just really enjoy the genre-the movie has to be extremely bad for me not to like it.I always try to find something positive in everything i watch.

I try and do the same thing. I'm just not able to do it as well as you are. But some movies just aren't redeemable or enjoyable to me after one viewing. LOL

Well kyle i might as well confess to something. Please feel free to call me deranged, obsessive, fanatic or just plain out crazy ;D Along with my huge collection of hawrah dvds,i'm also obsessed with keeping them all in good shape.
I don't mean the normal way,i mean like making sure none of my discs have not one single smudge, finger print or scratch.Every time i pick a movie out to watch from my stack i have a special glove i put on so i don't get any fingerprints on them.I have a special feather duster in my hawrah room for dusting all my discs when a little dust gets on them.I never wipe my discs with any type of cloth because that scratches the disc, and when that happens i don't want it anymore-even if it works just fine i just go out and buy a new one and sell the other one.Every thing has to be top notch in my collection.
I guess i just consider myself to be a perfectionist.
I remember when i first purchased Black Sunday-I took off the plastic wrap looked at the disc and it had fingerprints.I guess it came from the factory. But that was just unacceptable to me.So i took it back and got another one.
Please feel free to post your opinion ;D

Why, cuz action movies are for road scholars or something?

I think he meant that your love of Horror is a safe hobby. That you could be into a lot worse things. I'm not quite as extreme about my DVD's Though I am a stickler that they don't have fingerprints on them. That's one thing I hate about renting. Some of them look like the person renting it thought the movie was in braille. ;D

I'm just saying that a lot of people view horror as one step over porn on the ladder and it's insulting to it's fans is all. People I know always make comments like the one jlaw mentioned and almost kind of mock me for being a horror fan, as if it's a sign of being not as smart as people who don't love horror.
Same thing with wrestling, people look down on that also. I just don't think it's cool to try to talk down about those things or the fans of those things. What does that suppose to mean?

I agree with you 100% C.Some people think if we watch horror we're either serial killers or in the beginning stages of killing.Guys like that O'Reilay character,i don't even care if i spelled his name wrong.
But its true, a lot of people look down on certain types of entertainment. It really is belittling and insulting to the person who is an innocent fan of it.

You guys speak to me like few others can. I love horror fans.
It's funny because gore is the last thing I bring up when I talk to the people who pretty much mock me, like Chainsaw said. I always go on about suspense, the score, certain shots, etc and I feel like I'm being treated like some sort of primitive buffoon when it all boils down to "if you like horror movies, you're a sick motherfucker". It gets to the point where I won't talk about it until someone else brings it up first, just because of how uncomfortable it sometimes gets.
In the end, I'm more frustrated by the fact that I can't have more serious horror discussions with people offline, rather than how others view the genre, but I can't pretend it doesn't bother me sometimes.

jlaw, I hear ya, it's a damn good thing we got this place. Horror fans like us have made me feel like less of a weirdo for my love of the genre.
