A vengeful witch and her fiendish servant return from the grave and begin a bloody campaign to possess the body of the witch's beautiful look-alike descendant. #clap# You're absolutely correct. One of, if not the finest Bava films. This movie ranks among my top 20 personal favorites. Spooky is the perfect word to describe it. Incredibly atmospheric and for its time, it was pretty graphic, the opening scenes serving as evidence. It is one of those movies that has its fair share of "moments".
Plus, it has Barbara Steele. How can you not love it?
Camper killed for bringing attention to it. Hopefully, at least one person will see this thread and maybe it will send them down the path of Bava.

Dude, never count on my word alone.
I have a profound taste for horror, but not everyone likes the movies i like.
But what i can do is recommend some films to certain people i think might dig it.
Demon for example loves Atmospheric black and white horror. I'm pretty sure he'll love Black Sunday.
I want to make a movie man,seriously!

One of my favorite scenes is when Barbara Steele is just standing there. The definition of atmospheric.

Just the way this film feels is perfect. If black Sunday was filmed in color it would have lost the creepiness imo.

No arguments here. It's an interesting point too, because Bava is so well known for his shots of color that basically pop off the screen, Kill, Baby...Kill! jumping immediately to mind.

Wow you right Jlaw! Maybe black Sunday could have worked in color then.. I never thought of comparing Black Sunday with Kill baby Kill.
Thanks a lot Jlaw for introducing me to that idea. Bava definitely had the skills to accomplish anything.

It's pretty much impossible for me to imagine Black Sunday in color.
But you're right, Bava was god and could have done anything he wanted to.

If you look in special features on the black sunday disc, you can find some production photos in color.
IMO anything in black and white makes the film more scary and surreal.
The mist for example, totally different feeling when watching it in Black and White.

Yeah, I love The Mist in black and white. I'll probably never watch it in color again.
As for the Black Sunday, I have a different disc than the one you posted in this thread, so I'll have to see if those extras are on my version.

I'd describe your taste in horror as broad. You are a lot easier to please/ are more forgiving when it comes to horror. Now don't take that wrong and think I'm saying you have bad taste. I'm just saying it takes a truly crappy movie for you to say something bad about a horror film. I wish I had that ability. I am actually fairly open minded compared to some horror fans. But you really take it to another level.
