Regarding film grain, some filmmakers put it there on purpose.
One problem with some Blu-Ray releases is that they clean the transfer up too much and lose the grainy look.
I know it isn't a favorite around here, but Rob Zombie's Halloween II is shot in 16mm and has film grain present, which apparently look great in Blu-Ray.

Yes HII was VERY grainy but he did that on purpose. Sometimes it makes a film look better. But I prefer a choice. I wish he added it afterwards and we can choose which version we wanna see.
