''An introverted church organ player named Mary (Candice Hilligoss), mysteriously emerges onto a river bank dazed and uninjured hours after a serious car accident. Mary is pursued by a terrifying, ghoulish apparition beckoning her. Although she tries to run from this grinning stalker and the nightmarish goings-on in an old pavilion, there is no escaping the fate that awaits her. It is nearly impossible to watch this film and not be haunted by its combination of music, silence and imagery. For nearly four decades, Carnival of Souls has been a classic of low-budget horror. It is, most amazingly, the first and only feature film made by director Herk Harvey and writer John Clifford. Extremely creepy atmosphere.Shows how effective B&W horror really is.

Carnival of Souls is proof that a black and white movie can still scare the hell out of you.

I gotta pick this up. I've been meaning to get back into the classics, and this movie looks like it can do it. Black and white movies are just great, I love the atmosphere they give.

Absolute classic! The ending is still getting ripped off today. Also inspired Alice Cooper's song Levity Ball.

I love this movie. I finally watched for the first time a few months back and I've revisited it a couple of times since. It just has that creepy old school black and white vibe and it goes by pretty quick with the low running time. I like when she is talking to the therapist guy and his back is turned to her and then the chair turns and it is the apparition/ghoul/? that she's been seeing.

This a great example of classic black and white horror. I absolutely love the spooky atmosphere and the simple yet very effective scare moments.

Before seeing it, I've had the Criterion version on my wishlist for years. I really want to see a good quality of the film now and it's worth it since I know I love the movie, but I know the second I buy it, they'll announce a Blu-ray version!

Hopefully they can do a full restoration akin to the 50th anniversary Psycho for Blu Ray.

Finally got the Criterion collection for my birthday. Haven't watched it yet, but I'm pumped to see a really good copy of this classic for once. It'll be like seeing it for the first time all over again.

This is one of mine and my wife's favorite black and white horror movies, we actually still watch it quite often along with the "The Screaming Skull". Carnival is a great movie and for being an older black and white movie it still creeps me out when I watch it and there is not a lot of movies period that do that to me....older, newer, etc. Candace Hilligoss is pretty attractive also, which is always a plus, just makes me like the movie that much more.

Man, the love affair I have with this film is just so great that I can't help but keep commenting about it. Not even a year since I first saw the film and I've seen it like 5 times. ZombieKillerXXX: I agree, there's not too many black and whites that truly creep me out (and believe me, I love these old flicks, it's basically all I've watched in terms of horror for like a year now...maybe because of Carnival of Souls?), but Carnival of Souls truly gets under my skin. Yea, she is extremely hot.
