Paul W.S. Anderson is set to direct this recent RE movie that will kick off a new trilogy. Anderson, who will write and direct, told us that the fourth film in the franchise will have the largest budget of all the films so far. "I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise." Milla Jovovich will return as Alice in "Afterlife," opening September 17, 2010. You can also expect some returning characters from the previous films and new characters from the video games. - Source

A fourth film sounds ok. The third resident evil movie wasn't all that great, but it was still watchable. They should just do a fourth one, then leave it alone-6 resident evil films is a risk.Usually franchise films start going down hill after the 4th or 5th sequel.

I never liked the Resident Evil films, mostly because they suffered from the "Vin Diesel Syndrome" as I like to call it.
What is this Vin Diesel Syndrome? Well, quite frankly it is where the hero is so insanely Godly that, no matter what happens, they win without breaking a sweat. All their lines are INSANELY focused on being proven as tough or bad ass, and they are able to just do ridiculous stuff perfectly. I HATE that in a film, as it ruins the experience and ultimately, like with Vin Diesel, makes all his roles predictable and his films dull.
To me, the Alice character is just that.
A good example of a balanced hero would be the space marines in Aliens. Yeah they kicked ass, yeah they were the good guys, but they screwed up and it got them killed. Of course one could argue Ripley is a carrier of the "Vin Diesel Syndrome", but at least she had moments of weakness and, well, fell victim to the Xenomorphs in the third film. But I'm wandering from Resident Evil here...
Anyway, I am not looking forward to this. Resident Evil, to me, seems to be going away from what it was, and into a territory it has no business strolling through. Like all trespassers, it will be shot in the foot, which is evident by their films that they already have some bullet wounds.

I just wish they'd do one more based on the game since it the games have such a great set up for a film.
