Saw wins by default when it comes to home video, as back when Halloween was released, people didn't go out and rent movies.
When that started, the players were expensive and the buying a title cost about as much as you would pay for a box set these days.

^ I think he meant none of them, including the first one.
And this frankly suprises me, I didn't think it would be the best-selling of ALL TIME out of ALL the big ones. I agree with the majority of people here, I enjoyed the first one, the second one was alright, but then it just went straight downhill from there.

Yeah they definetly took a downward turn after the first film when they got away from alot of the 'what the hell is going on and who's behind it all' theme of the first one. After that one we all knew who was ultimatlely behind it and that took alot of the quailty away from the sequels. I'm not surprised that its the most fiancially successfully one though, since you have to remember alot of the big horror franchises started out with small releases and grew in popularity through word of mouth over time, but with Saw movies they were released with a big studio behind it pushing it into peoples faces making it well known to the public and in turn drawing in more people from the get go.

The producers say that Saw 7 (in 3D) will be the last one, and the decreased earnings of Saw 6 are probably why, even though it got a better reception then Saw 5.
From Saw 2 until Saw 5, they all made more then $30 million opening weekend, with the first one being an exception.
It is impressive considering that the first film was made for a measly $1.2 million and almost went straight to video.

Good Saw needs to be put to rest before they send Jigsaw to NY...then Hell...then space...then Elm St....

Yall know why it has the record? Movie tickets are more expensive now and more available and movies are more accessible now than it was back when the major franchises were at their prime.
I could bet my life that if you adjust for inflation of 2010 dollars that Saw does NOT have the highest grossing money record. And it still doesn't have the impact that the ones we all know and love have.

He .. sawed his foot off in the first movie maybe? After that I couldn't tell you. I don't think they were intending sequels.
By the way is anybody excited about Saw 3D oh yes they changed the name.? Last entry. I do admit VI was better than the last couple. I guess we'll see. At any rate horror franchises ALWAYS END BAD, will this be any different?
