A great underrated 80's horror movie is being remade and I hope it can compare even a little bit to the orignal. So far I really like the poster and I'm glad they are pushing the Halloween theme.www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/2163

One minute I am agreeig with Chainsaw and now I am not ;D
I though this movie is VERY overrated in the cult horror community. It's one one big massive bore until like the late second half of the movie. It's like a comedy almost with hardly any scares. I actually think a remake could improve this one!
Of course this one is NOT getting a theaterical release. It's being released straight to store in October. I't already done and some who have seen it have rated it on IMDB already.

The original is by no means a masterpiece and to be frank bored me to tears until the last 30 minutes. Something I thought was going to be scary is like some trumped up horror comedy

I don't think it's comedic at all really. It has typical 80s slasher one-liners but it's not horror comedy. I don't like Drag Me to Hell and Army of Darkness etc. because they were too comedic for me. People that know my tastes here know I like balls to the wall horror, little comedy and unhappy endings.

Wasn't even thinking about the whole Raimi thing either. Those were just the two that were off the top of my head. Overrated and too much comedy and not enough horror. The Evil Dead was outstanding and that's how horror should be done.

It certainly wasn't scary and was rather BORING until the last 30 minutes when it finally got some action. I still haven't quite figured out what kind of ending that was yet. I haven't even sen the two sequels it produced. One minute we agree then disagree simultaneously. I prefer scary horror movies over comedy. I actually did enjoy Drag Me to Hell based on the fact that it was ORIGINAL and DIFFERENT in a day and age when everything sucks massively n the horror department with a few things far and few between that are good. Also original Evil Dead for the win. I don't know what Raimi was thinking making that movie . . . funny.

I started off liking Drag Me to Hell for the first 45 minutes as it reminded me of an 80's movie, kinda like Witchboard or countless others in that vain but I just couldn't ignore how silly it got as time went on and how the comedy took over in the second half. LOVED the ending though. Night of the Demon's isn't a slasher but it is a typical 80's supernatural movie but with slasher type kills. I love the Halloween vibe to it and it just has a good atmosphere. Just my opinion.

I liked Evil Dead (with no comedy) but I did enjoy Drag Me to Hell like I said it was different and something original for a change.
Back on this topic, the ones who have seen this remake on IMDB its pretty much has an identical rating to the first one, in the 5's.
I haven't even bothered with the two sequels the original had, should I or should I not watch them is the question.

Didnt know it had third sequel, if memory serves me right the second one was a bit better then the first, but dont bank on that Yep I was Amazoning and IMDB'ing and it does indeed have a third sequel. I may check out the second one on hopes it will be better than the first. It was released in 1997.

So this is going straight to video.
I was at least expecting some sort of theatrical presence.

I thought the original is bland until like the last 30 minutes. The remake isn't that is it? Or would you say its better? They both are almost have identical IMDB ratings

Personally, the remake is more memorable. I saw the original months back and it didn't leave a lasting impression so I would need to watch it again to refresh my memory. Don't take my word for it though cause I usually love things people will hate.

Linnea Quigley is a horror queen. :PFor me the remake was rubbish. The original is an excellent 80's horror flick. I always watch the 80's night of the demons during Halloween time.It just has that Halloween feeling and atmosphere for me.My horror taste is extremely unorthodox to some people, but i'm glad some folks enjoyed the remake.
I for the other hand, will never watch the remake again.

Edward Furlong and Shannon Elizabeth have certianly lost whatever star power they had left.
It wasn't very long ago that Shannon was the American Pie hottie, and now she had a hard time starring in theatrical releases.

I haven't watched the remake yet since I am taking a break for a while after October wearing me out.
All I can say about the original is the first hour of it is nothing but blah and the last 30 minutes was pretty good. And the ending makes no sense at all. Unless that is suppose to be some Creepshow ending. Overall I think its an overrated film. Haven't seen the two sequels it spawned though so I wouldn't know those. I just expected to be happy as a bee the way people talked about the film and my version is unrated to. Way too much silliness to be taken seriously.
