As most of you know, I am a huge fan of George Romero and collect all of his movies.
This was the case with Survival Of The Dead, which I was hoping to be an improvement over Diary.
It was a total let down from start to finish and made me have a whole new appreciation over Land.
Once again, I didn't connect with the characters and for some reason, most of them had ridiculous accents.
In the end, whatever message Romero was trying to get across was lost in the poor execution, with the whole film seeming rather pointless.

I'm BEHIND on Romero. I have only seen the following from him: "Day of the Dead" which I own. And "Creepshow" which he directed. Other than that, nothing.
I'm pondering a marathon of some sorts from the man. Particularly his "Dead" movies, I believe there are like 5 of them total. Judging by what yall are saying, his latter ones are . . . not so great.

The first three are the best and worth watching.
Land is no classic. but is still well made.
Diary and Survival are disappointments.

I really enjoyed "Day". I have a copy of "Night" in here I am going to check out soon. I will have to rip "Dawn" off the internet. I guess I will get through "Land" "Diary" and Survival". Of course what is "Diary" even about?

Just to clarify, here is Romero's complete zombie filmography.
Night Of The Living Dead -1968 (it started the zombie sub-genre and is an all time classic) Dawn Of The Dead - 1978 (a sequel, and every bit as classic) Day Of The Dead - 1985 (great as usual) Land Of The Dead - 2005 (No classic, but still good) Diary Of The Dead -2007 (disappointing, but not horrible) Survival Of The Dead -2009 (ugh...)
All of them are available on DVD.
Diary is a stand alone movie and isn't in the same time line as the first four.
It covers the start of a zombie plague as many films of the genre do, but is updated for the current generation, featuring YouTube and social networking sites as a plot device.
If you are really lazy and don't feel like popping in a DVD, Night is public domain and you can watch it legally online.

That's too bad that survival was a disappointment, I was hoping he might have gotten some of his old feel back that he started losing with Land. I may check it out online one of these days but it doesn't sound like there's much to hurry out and see.

Why is there a HUGE time lapse between "Day and "Land"??
What about "The Crazies"? It had a remake recently as well.

Don't make up your mind based on what I said though. He just waited a while to make it I guess. I should have asked Romero when I met him at Fan Expo.

Oh I won't it just seems like he's moving farther and farther away from what he became known for in the zombie genre.

I will watch these as I said. Oddly an "extended" version of the original "Day" is on youtube. I know its under the title "Zombi" in some places but at least I have easy access to that one!
I'm going to stream "Land" or at least the rest of it tonight so I should be able to knock these movies out very soon. Judging by the critques each movie "gets worse" of course I say that LOOSELY with the first 3. Everybody thinks Land is OKAY. Diary is mediocre and Survival is suicide inducing.
Looks like his next project is an Argento remake of "Deep Red"

I found a VHS of the original Dawn of the Dead today so now I own Night, Dawn and Day so I can finally start this marathon! It's unrated so I get to see it in all its gory goodness.
I saw there is a remake of Dawn of the Dead from 2004? Anybody like that one?

There is no "unrated" version of Dawn, just the theatrical, extended and European cuts.
The remake is barely that, as all it has in common is zombies and a mall.
I like it, but it pales compared to the original and features running zombies.

Dawn of The dead was filmed at my local mall and Night of the living dead was filmed around my area ( not sure where exactly)

The Dawn remake, Land, Diary and Survival were all shot here.
I would love to go to the Monroeville Mall some day.

Well, my tape from Anchor Bay and Video Treasures still has "unrated" stamped on the tape itself. I guess I'll find out which one it is

Most likely.
Romero's preferred version is the theatrical cut.

I own them all as well (except Land which I hated) but have yet to watch Survival. I just kept hearing about over the top comedy and that is a big turn off to me as you guys know. I of course will watch it ASAP and give my opinion.
I also have an underground copy of Dawn that cobines the theatrical, European and extended version to make one continous be all end all edition. It's also the longest version as well.
Night and Dawn are absolute masterpieces and should be required viewing for horror fans. Day was good as well just not in the same league. Land just pissed me off from almost start to finish and I actually liked Diary as well.
Night - 10 Dawn - 10 Day- 8 Land - 3 Diary- 6

Day is epic and has Tom Savini to give some of his best special affects in that movie I do agree! My version of Dawn says its like 126 minutes so I'll let my Dead experts here determine which one I have Why do you hate Land Chainsaw? Not that I love I haven't seen it yet ;D Most seem to say Diary or Survival is the worst of Romero's later three.
