Watching Diary and Survival makes one appreciate Land a lot more.
Rebel, you have the theatrical cut, as the extended version is 139 minutes and the Argento version is 119 minutes.

Yes, and it is signed by Romero.

This has turned in to the Romero Dead saga thread now ;D
I watched "Dawn" last night. Very good I must say and very entertaining. I liked "Day's" plot better but Dawn was more entertaining to watch.
Need to watch "Night" and probably check out "Land" the next day now.

Why do you hate Land Chainsaw? Not that I love I haven't seen it yet ;D Most seem to say Diary or Survival is the worst of Romero's later three. Here's the problem with Land. The zombies are way too advanced now, to the point that it's ridiculous. The Big Daddy zombie is like Jar Jar Binks. Every time he's on the screen, I wanna shoot him. He does things which are utterly a slap in the face of all things zombie. He may as well be Jason but even smarter. The CGI is horrible and overused. The ending is silly because they talk about having pity for the zombies and to just let them exist on their own. Suddenly these monsters are completely humanized? The emphasis on money is all wrong and goes against what the previous two movies in the saga said about money. Just watch them all in a row and you will see my point. I can't believe how many people hated Diary and preferred Land over it. I am yet to hear one good reason why.

Well keep in mind here I have only seen this movie just one time and that was at the theater when it was first released but I think I still have a good argument here.
First off, there is no logical progression of zombies realistically. The only tme a zombie really made significant progress of course is Dr Logan's work with Bub, and that was day in and day out over a period of tme for research. To think that a zombie could have such advancements for no good reason like Big Daddy did is absurd. He was also the only one who did so as well. Why would there be a natural zombe evolution now, that's just silly and I can't accept it.
I may be wrong about the CGI being overused, but I most defnately recall the scene you refer to when the zombie's head gets blown off. It left a bitter taste in my mouth and I can still visualize it now, so maybe that was an unfair assessment, but it was still terrible. There must have been more CGI in that movie you would think.
Now, once again I may be worng, but I recall that the rich people were the ones who were barracaded in that big glass mall type building while the poor were kept outside. When I said that the other moves had a different take on money I was referring to money pretty much being deemed as useless as early as Dawn.
I am not one to miss political tones of films as I am as politically opinionated and analytical as anyone and easily deciphered what Romero was trying to say each time. I do recall there being a bit of a quasi-terrorism theme to Land, but once again, my limited experience viewing the film and being so turned off to what I disliked may have clouded my memory.

To be fair, there is far more obvious CGI present in Diary and Survival, although I do take issue with some of the FX in Land.
It was the only one produced by a major studio though.

I will sign off on the idea of the people barracadding themselves with all their money to preserve life as they knew it. I can not sign off on anything you or anybody brings to the table to explain Big daddy and why his actions were justified whatesoever, if not anythingother than completely ridiculous.
With the possible exception of Jeremy I don't think anyone here loves the original three Romero zombie movies more or has seen them more than I have. It doesn't make me an expert or a fanboy or anything but I can definately say that what happens in Land is insulting. It's like making Jason suddenly talk in The Final Chapter or Michael do a dance routine in H20. I realize I'm being dramatic but that's how insulted I was at the effort.
As far as CGI being used in Diary, I think it was only some gunshots or blood splatter, I'm not happy about it but at least it wasn't as bad as that SyFy Channel quality scene that was used in Land.
Will watch Survival very soon though.

I found this pretty disappointing. I haven't really had too much internet access over the past year so I've fallen behind on a lot of things and I was surprised when I saw this sitting in a store ad when it first hit Blu-ray/DVD. I haven't bought loads of movies lately either, but I was like "hey it's Romero right, I got to make an exception for him (forgetting that Land and Diary were lackluster....yea, Land has grown on me a little and Diary was ok, but who doesn't expect more from the guy who created the modern zombie film?). I dropped like $25 on the Blu-ray which is probably among my highest purchases ever on the format and watched it that night. It was ok, but forgettable. I think that's worse than just being plain bad, at least when dealing with Romero. I'm sure I'll watch it again someday, but just like with Diary, I feel no need currently to revisit it. It's just sad to see what Romero has come to...after all, these are his own independent projects, so you can't blame the studio like some did with Land. These last two films make Land look like a gem...but personally, this new trilogy is just so dull. Not bad films, but not memorable to me in any way.
