An old tale says that if you say "candyman" five time whilst looking into a mirror, then "he" will appear behind you and cut you in two. The heroine of this story is writing a thesis on such tales. During her investigations, she encounters the "candyman".
Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) is writing a paper on urban legends when she hears about the Candyman (Tony Todd), who was once an ex-slave-turned-artist name Daniel Robitaille, who had an affair with his client's daughter. Robitaille's right hand was sawn off, he was covered in honey, and stung to death by bees. If anyone says the word "Candyman" five times in a mirror, he'll appear behind that person, a bloody hook as a replacement for his hand, and kill him. A series of unsolved murders is happening in the Cabrini Green projects and Helen is using this to help with her paper. The residents say the Candyman is to blame, but Helen doesn't believe it. Until she meets the man with a hook for a hand. Now, he's begun to murder her friends and no one believes her. Can Helen clear her name and stop the Candyman from killing anyone else?

Great film. And an interesting take on the Bloody Mary Urban Legend. It's the best movie in the series.

I agree the first movie and the atmosphere can really get to you. The movie's score is brilliant.
Part 2 and 3 were bleh...they were alright but not as good as the first one.
A part 4 was rumored to be in production
I'm going to watch part 1 right now

It is sad they never recaptured the greatness of the first one in either of the sequels. If not for Tony Todd carrying the movies they'd probably be unwatchable. Especially the 3rd one. I liked his cameo in Hatchet. That's yet another reason I hope the sequel happens. Because he's supposed to have a much bigger role in it. Enjoy the movie XN!

Yep. If the Director has any say he will be. With a MUCH larger part. Which I would love.

I could have my story wrong but i think i heard Adam Green deciding for another director to direct the film or something like that.
In Hatchet Tony's character was the original tour guide, but he obviously knew a lot about Victor Crowley.
But he had to tend to his birds.lol

If that's the case I haven't heard it yet. I just know I heard that if a sequel gets made Green said he wanted Tony's character to have a larger role.

It is indeed. I'd love that character to be expanded on. Todd deserves a role he can sink his teeth into.

I agree.. I was just thinking how time passed so quickly. Candyman was released in 1992, i was 12 years old. I remember the movie scaring the hell out of me when i first saw it. It doesn't scare me any more but it sure did when i was 12.

I babysat a little boy for a couple hours once and we watched this together. I got him to try the Candyman thing in the bathroom but he never made it past saying it 4 times. I bet he had nightmares that night. ;D

LOL I've made it to 5. The movie was effective and it is creepy to be doing the Candyman thing in a dark room with a mirror. But I can say from experience nothing happened.
