On December 7, 1982, Richard Delmer Boyer of El Monte, California, murdered Francis and Eileen Harbitz, an elderly couple in Fullerton, California, leading to the trial People v. Boyer (1989). The couple were stabbed a total of 43 times by Boyer. According to the trial transcript, Boyer's defense was that he suffered from hallucinations in the Harbitz residence brought on by "the movie Halloween II, which defendant had seen under the influence of PCP, marijuana, and alcohol." The film was played for the jury, and a psychopharmacologist "pointed out various similarities between its scenes and the visions defendant described."
Boyer was found guilty and sentenced to death. The incident became known as the "Halloween II Murders" and was featured in a short segment on TNT's Monstervision, hosted by film critic Joe Bob Briggs.
Crazy stuff...

Looks to me like another case of someone blaming their actions on something else instead of themselves. Its like an old slight of hand trick, get the audience so distracted by this and they'll miss what's going on over there. Fortunately he was found guilty or I could imagine all the criminals who would use that type of thing as a defense.

I remember watching on court tv a long time ago where a mentally disturbed Teen from MA murdered his neighbor with a kitchen knife and then hung himself in the woods. He was a shizophrenic who was literally obsessed with Jason Voorhees. He thought he was Jason.

I remember that case, he was so obsessed that when they found him in the tree he was dressed just like Jason. Coveralls and all. Talk about nuts.

Yeah and adding into the fact that his parents let him watch the movies and of course blamed the films for their son being a whacko.

Pretty whacked out stuff. I haven't heard it before now about this case though. Does anyone remember that girl that used to be here that talked about astral planes and how she was able to talk to Jason?

Horror movies can really fuck someone's mind up. If you're not completely sane, you shouldn't watch them.
They should have that disclaimer somewhere on the movie ticket ;D
