C'mon mow XN, did you really think I never heard of this either. ;D
I must confess though, I have heard of it but never seen it. It just wasn't at any of the video stores in the late 80's for me. I never rushed to see it because I assumed that Troma couldn't make a scary movie like that and do it right.
How about The Brood though? Seen that anyone?

I like THE CHILDREN! I remember going to see this one at the drive-in. I have not seen it in years. (I noticed that Harry Manfredini did the music right away because the music does sound exactly like FRIDAY THE 13th.)
CHILDREN OF THE CORN is on SciFi Channel right now. I love the music! "Ah Ah Ah Ah Ahhh Ah Ah . . . "

They are freaky. I used to like the Shining alot more than I do now. Mainly because I had a Professor who made us study it for a Modern Literature course of all things. He insisted on dissecting every part of it and to say he was not a horror fan was putting it mildly. Everything in it had some kind motive apart from being scary it was either a psychological thing, a social comment, among others. Needless to say he ruined it for me I haven't been able to watch and enjoy it ever since.

I've never really been a huge fan of The Shining. Always thought it to be vastly overrated.

I've never really been a huge fan of The Shining. Always thought it to be vastly overrated. I feel exactly the same way. Just because Nicholson's performance is brilliant doesn't really mean the movie is all that solid. I always found it rather dull.

Just because Nicholson's performance is brilliant doesn't really mean the movie is all that solid. I always found it rather dull. I have heard people say this before. I can't agree with them as it's one my top 5 of all time but that opinion does fascinate me. Aside from the performances of ALL the actors, the atmosphere and cinematography are excellent. The score is incredible, just creepy and original. Those twins...eesh, they are just so scary to me as are other things in this movie. To me, it's a one of a kind movie.

I think for me part of it is that I loved the book so much. I read the book first, and the movie just didn't live up to my expectations.

I can't speak for the Shining since I've never read the book. But that does makes sense, most of the movie adaptations I have seen don't live up to their books.
