I'd love to see all 'Children Of The Corn' remakes, except 'COTC III',since 3 is much satanic/gothic like by which I enjoyed most.*smiles*

Besides, what's there to enjoy all minor horror movies when there isn't satanic/goth like films? Instead I want to have all COTC as a remake but more menacing & satanic like the old.*brought good memories*

I think remakes qare a great way for a director to pay homage to a classic w/o ripping it off.

I feel that remakes are coming along, they're getting better, but the originals are the best. If it wasn't for the originals, there would be no remake, and therefore the remakes are works inspired by the originals in dedication to them. In short, a homage of respect to the film before it.
Note: I've decided to give a point to the film I feel is better, and this isn't a 1-5, 1-10, as a 1 is the best a film can get.
When it comes to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original is the best. It's the camera, the eerie silence during some scenes, and Leatherface's overall look. It felt more like a documentary than a Horror film. The remake felt like a Horror film and not authentic, so this a no-contest.
TCM Original = 1, TCM Remake = 0
Dawn of the Dead was a great film, and the remake was interesting as well, but I have to give it to the original. You felt that the world was out of control, the characters and their frustration, and the impending doom that would befall them. The remake relied more on fancy special effects, fantastic make-up, and characters to whom you felt no immediate connection.
DotD Original = 1, DotD Remake = 0
The Amityville Horror is another series that should have stopped at the original, but at least the remake is a refreshing look at it. For anyone who reads comic books (especially Marvel and DC), then you'll know about the Ret-con process, in short it's when the people behind the comic books decide to rewrite or redo an established character's history. This is what the remake of the Amityville Horror feels like. Unlike the previous two remakes, this one is aimed towards a younger generation, and therefore it cannot be fairly compared with the original.
AH Original = 1, AH Remake = 1
That's the only Horror-related remakes I've seen that I can think of, but if I remember or see anymore I'll be sure to add them. Hope this helps!

In reality a remake will never be better than the original. In most cases remakes are of classics.. classics that can;t be touched in alot of ways. Remakes never try to dwarf originals, infact alot of thigns are usually changed around to sort of retell the story. To me, I treat it as more of a sequel than anything else. The TCM remake felt like a sequel. The Amityville Horror remake felt alot like a sequel as well...
When people watch remakes it seems like they either want the movie to be exactly like the original, or it sucks. I remember alot of people getting bent out of shape because the TCM remake was different, different characters, etc... (I agree the family should have been named Sawyer, not Hewitt) but I liked the fact the characters were different.. It gave a very fresh template, and you didn't know what to expect from them.

I think it's pretty obvious that the Amittyville re-make dwarfed the original by light years. The original was boring and dull and barely told a good ghosts story that even remotely made me interested the whole way threw. I felt like I was watching the original 13 Ghosts when I watch the original Amittyville...
Always waiting for something that never came and then the credits rolled...
By the way Kwik Kash They also remade House on Haunted Hill and 13Ghosts.

I knew about those. But, I have yet to see them. I've heard House on Haunted Hill was a let-down.

Of chourse the original. Remakes are often nothing more then the original in new environment, refreched sound and picture and often without the heart and soul of the original. It´s like covering a song you should do your own interpretation, if you don´t it becomes pointless, at least in my opinion.

To me, the original is usualoly the best.
The only remakes I thought were better then the originals were House On Haunted Hill and The Thing.

There are some movies that shouldn't be remade. Psycho proved that. Sometimes a movie is so good that no matter what you think you can do you are never going to top it. Another one that shouldn't be touched is The Exorcist. You aren't ever going to be able to make it better than it was made and to try would be tantamount to blasphemy. I'm also kind of leery about the original Friday the 13th and Halloween. But it appears both are in the works so I guess I better get used to the idea.
Later,
Kyle

No remake has equalled or surpassed the original yet, except for Carpenters The Thing.
