Iron Man 2 has already made $100 million overseas and is set for a $150 million plus opening weekend, so look for a very steep drop come next weekend.
I don't think that it will drop as sharply as the F13 reboot, but it will probably do what Hellboy 2 did when TDK opened and fall around 70%.

Aren't they all signed on to do, at least, three films for a trilogy?

Regarding "more movies being signed on". Remember way back when Friday did well at the box office then we heard "Friday 2 in 3D greenlit with snow" then months went by and now well we know how that turned out.
Last I checked, Platinum Dunes' next project is remaking a movie called "Monster Squad" and Paramount this week wants them to do an action movie of some kind.

Signing for three movies doesn't mean that they will make three movies.
All it means is that the actor is making them self available in case that ends up happening.
The last thing the studio wants is to put a movie in the works and the actor is too busy, which means a possible recasting.

I saw the movie on saturday, but I've been debating the last few days on what rating I wanted to give it. I did enjoy the film, I thought Haley was excellent as Freddy. I mean, sure he's no Robert Englund, but he definitely brought a creepiness to the role and made Freddy scary again. I thought Rooney Mara was rather weak as the lead heroine. I didn't expect her to be the next Heather Langenkamp, but her performance just didn't do alot for me. I also wasn't impressed with Samuel Bayer's direction. NOES is a legendary horror film, and I think they could've chosen a director that actually cared about horror rather than someone who was just using the film to 'break in' to directing feature films. I think a director like Eli Roth could've done so much more with it. But overall, I have to say I'm pretty pleased. I had an awesome time seeing it in the theater, this being the only 'Freddy' movie I've seen on the big screen (not counting Fvs.J). I'd probably give it a 3.5 if that was an option, but I was impressed enough to go ahead and give it a 4. I'm looking forward to the DVD release, although I hope we get more extras than was given with the F13 remake.
Favorite to least: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Wes Craven's New Nightmare A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child Freddy vs. Jason

To those who have seen it, did it look and feel like every other PD movie?
By that, I mean the glossy look and tendency for all of the characters to be the same.

I would love for somebody to give an answer to Jeremy's question as well. Platinum Dunes films all "look" the same and the characters typically have no development.

Compared to the TCM and F13 remake, it has a very different look. The actual nightmare sets have different set of covers per scene. For example, in the dinner it kept on flashing green and red. Jessie and Kris dress like any other teen that is a senior in high school now these days. While, Nancy and Quintin dress like the socially awkward pair (Well at least Nancy does), which is okay since the script calls for that. The lighting in some of the dreams is amazing, like Kris's final dream (Not spoiling it, the scene was in the trailer).

The remake has made $36,788,706 as of May 4th. Now with the Iron Man 2 coming out this weekend that is going to KILL the viewership of this movie. I believe I heard Iron Man made 100 million oversees alone. I think the remake may just go to the 40 mil range and that will be about it. If so that would be about 20 mill less than what their last remake did.

I rate it a 4. I like him as an actor but I went into it thinking I would hate Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy. He proved me wrong though and I was impressed. The cast was really good and I loved the ending!

The remake director is a collosal BUTTWIPE. He insulted Nightmare critics and horror fans in general a few days ago. Here is the article. LINKSmall excerpt: "Look, I’m gonna catch a lot of heat for this,” he begins. “But some of these fans on the web should just get up, stretch, breathe, go outside and get some fresh air, maybe get a girlfriend and just get a life. . . . "

He then went on to say that they should see the movies and decide for themselves. A lot of these haters have not even seen the movie and bash it for being a remake. That is what he meant by the quote you posted. I actually agree with him, see the movie before you talk.

I think Jackie Haley did ok, but like I said his acting felt very scripted. i expected a much more unique delivery in his lines. I expected a lot of different things. It just felt like another typical horror movie to me. Not cutting edge at all. Not even caring much and having a life and girlfriend as suggested, didn't help me care any less about a few details. Honestly my biggest gripe is the generic feel of it all. Nothing feels new to me anymore. Scream was the last big innovation in horror IMO. Saw, Hostel and High Tension wasn't my idea of a good cup of tea lol

let's say it was the first in the series and no other nightmare films where, made, i would have LOVED it to death, but that's a fantasy, it's a almost good remake, i hate freddy's new back story, i liked the original's story alot better, would have liked Robbert Englund back, he's the only freddy i liked

It looks like this might have a crash similar to the F13 reboot, as it dropped 79% on Friday alone.
The difference is that F13 cost less and made more.

I strongly disagree with the quote by Buttwipe Samuel Bayer thinking "the online community" is hating for the sake of hating. He apparently elevates himself to great quality a man who has never done a movie in his entire life. I cannot suppor the PERSON with that kind of attitude toward horror fans. I said nothing of the movie itself. I have read reviews from these "haters" he hates and they are genuine Nightmare fanatics not just the ones you read on Rotton Tomatoes who may wind up hating for the sake of hating
I had to get that off my chest ;D
---
Nightmare remake as of yesterday has raked in $42,675,000. Now that Iron Man 2 is out and raked in 52 Million in ONE DAY I don't think the Nightmare remake may make it to Friday the 13th's levels.
