Looking forward to what looks like more of the same. Nothing spectacular but a good slasher.

It is set to get a theatrical release in AMC theaters, and the kicker is that it will be released unrated.
Adam Green had enough of the MPAA, and it apparently was in need of cuts to get an R rating.

I agree that this movie is a bit overrated. Could have been WAY better hopefully it will improve. To me it was just shameless fun if I don't take it too seriously.

So the movie ended up getting shown unrated in 68 theaters, but was pulled after only three days.
Adam Green blames the MPAA, but he obviously isn't seeing the lackluster weekend gross and low per theater average.
It simply didn't put butts in seats and generate concession sales.

It was always going to make its money on home video and On Demand anyways.

Yeah it will make a profit with that medium, I think it would have had a better boxoffice draw if it had been advertised. I dont remember seeing any advertising on tv or anything.

Theater chains don't give unrated movies a lot of exposure and neither to the marketing people.

I bought Hatchet 2 the day it came out, and I have to say it was awesome! If you liked the first one, you'll love Hatchet 2.
It was great to see Danielle Harris take over the role of Marybeth, she should've been given the part in the first one. Tony Todd does a great job as Reverend Zombie, and Kane Hodder is awesome as the next big horror icon, Victor Crowley. It was nice seeing genre icons Tom Holland and R.A. Mihailoff in roles as well.
In my opinion Adam Green has to be the best horror director out there today. He truly loves the genre and appreciates the fans. He only worries about what horror fans want, he could care less about the general viewing audience. You don't see too many directors like that.
I'm hoping that Hatchet can become a modern day Friday the 13th. Green says right now he's not planning on a Hatchet 3, but that may change in the future. I hope the fans really get behind these movies, I know as long as he keeps making them I'll be watching them.
Long live Victor Crowley!

Glad you liked it!Hope its better then the first one, which pretty much sucked IMO. For once we agree... I watched 1 and never watched it again...
I watched 2 and thought it was basically part 1 all over again. It didn't move the story anywhere and was boring. The kills werent even good. I just dont see what people like about the Hatchet movies I guess. I generally like most of what most fans like. Not in this case however.

I saw 1 and to me it felt a lot like a Friday the 13th knockoff though the cameos were nice.

If it is to become a new horror franchise and Victor Crowley a new slasher icon, the next few movies need to get a wide theatrical release (2000+ count) and make millions of dollars. Until then, it is all just hype on Adam Green's part.
I want to address a few of FF79's points.
Not caring about the general audience will end any hopes of a franchise happening. He is delusional if he thinks that his current MO will get him anywhere but DTV features.
If his movies continue to generate moderate to dismal results, he might be stuck with DTV for good. I can understand someone liking his movies, but don't overestimate his "success."
Danielle Harris also proves that her agent sucks if this is the best that she can get.

Unfortunately everything you said is correct Jer... right down to DH agent. At this point she will do ANYTHING in the horror genre seeing as how the biggest thing she's ever done in her life is H4 and a string of terrible movies. RZH1 or 2 (whatever your opinion is) is the next best thing. So take that for what it is.

I like Danielle Harris, but the fact is that if she wants to be in a wide theatrical release, she has to go back to Halloween. Both of her characters are dead too.
Hatchet 2 lasted a few days on the big screen (a long story) and the numbers were bad.

Yikes, you don't become the next big franchise/icon if the movie isn't even stocked at rental locations.
I read on Facebook that one guy drove 30 miles to five stores and couldn't even find it on Blu-Ray. The big stores didn't even have it in stock.
